Daughter bitten own Tounge

I aren’t a mother but couldn’t think where else to go as it’s Sunday and didn’t want to use 111. My daughter has fallen from a chair and bitten her own tounge. I have been feeding her ice pops to soothe and calpol but she won’t let me rinse her mouth with salt water. Is this going to be a major problem?

Anyway - 111. It's what it's there for.

That's sore, you did well to get a photo!

Ice pops are a great idea, well done. She'll struggle with salt water as she won't be able to control swallowing/spitting it out.

It looks lovely and clean, I'd leave it be but keep going with the ice pops.

If it starts to look worse, or she complains, then ask 111 for advice.

I'd also give a dose of calpol in case it's sore.

Poor baby! Tongues heal really quickly and as it looks nice and clean I’d personally leave it. Continue with the ice poles and calpol and just keep an eye on it for now. X

When my son was about the same age he fell over at nursery school and bit his tongue.

I took him to A&E. They didn't do a thing about it. They said that the tongue will heal itself. Although you wouldn't think so with it being constantly wet, the tongue heals very, very quickly all by itself.

So, don't worry about it and save youself a trip to the doctor or A&E.

Tongues heal really well, especially in children.

I wouldnt worry too much, give calpol. Just let them at whatever they feel like - ice lollys are pefect!

If she will let you use salt water but if not Id just keep an eye on it. I wouldnt use much else on a 2 yr old other than salt water

Id give it a week, if its not healing or starting to look infected. Or if she starts to get a temperature or anything id take her into a&e.

All Id do if a 2 yr olf came into A&E with that is recommend pain releif and salt water, and monitor it. So youve done exactly the right thing!

Her saliva will do a relatively good job of keeping it clean if you cant use salt water, o dont worry

Its gaping a little but should still heal well.

Ah yes - the father. Duh!! I'm my defense, I had had wine.

Hope her tongue is ok. My husband bites his tongue VERY badly sometimes when he's had a seizure - like literally the sides are bottom into - and it heals well after a couple of days. It gets worse (ie more sore) before it gets better though, so be prepared for that.
