At my wits end with bladder issues!!

Hi everyone.

Before I start, I'd like to admit that I absolutely have health anxiety (started about 2 years ago when I had lots of irregular bleeding which turned out to be a cervical ectropion!) But I am suffering no end with very real health issues never the less. I am totally fed up. I had my second baby 7.5 months ago and since then it's been one thing after another. The main purpose of this thread though is to discuss my bladder! Since around Christmas time (from what I remember), I had the constant urge to urinate even though I knew I didn't really need to go. This would sometimes last a day or two and then go away and I thought maybe it was just something to do with recovery after giving birth. However, from late January until the end of March I had this feeling every day! I was waking once in the night to wee and then around 6am again the morning (which I never had to do before). Just as we went in to lockdown, even though I had this constant urge I began feeling that I couldn't empty my bladder and started to get pain and I worried I was going in to retention. This lasted for 2 or 3 days but then things seemed to go back to normal...what a relief! However, these past 3 days have been nothing short of HELL. This has come back with a vengence - so much worse than it was! I CONSTANTLY feel like I need to wee when I know nothing will really come out! I have had to get up 4 times for 2 nights just to try and get some relief. There's no stinging or pain but just this constant urge! I started my period today so I don't know if this has anything to do with it? I should add that I have had a few urine tests to check for infection between Christmas and March and they all came back clear. However when I was pregnant I did had 2 urine tests which detected some blood which I keep thinking about! I am so frustrated because I had an ultrasound and urologist meeting booked for the end of March but they obviously got cancelled thanks to the virus. I would love to have the option of paying privately just to get it sorted but I know this isn't an option at the moment either. Of course I keep thinking this is bladder cancer or something now because I've never experienced anything like it. I'm so fed up! Thanks if you've read this far...hoping someone can offer some words of wisdom about my bloody bladder! Sad

I have that, I've been fully investigated and they never found out why. It started in my teens.
It's worse at night, or when I'm stressed about life or it.
I have medication which I take for flares or when I'm stressing about when I can go wee. But normally I talk my self around it. I just weed there's nothing there, if I still need to go in 30 mins then I'll go again (while deliberately getting stuck in to something so I'm distracted). I'll also often wear pads especially at night so I can tell myself that while I've never yet had an accident there is some protection.
It was all consuming at one point but being investigated really reassured me and knowing my triggers.

I had this for months after having a uti and treatment.
All subsequent tests were negative.
Turned out I had chronic pain syndrome from the acute inflammation.
Low dose amitriptylene fixed it.
But I had to see a urogynaecologist privately to get that.

Sounds like intercystitial cystitis to me, and if so, will need treatment. I sympathise- for now, cut out caffeine, sweeteners and spices and see if if helps - these can be 3 triggers if it is IC.

Thank you for your replies everyone. Do you suffer with this @PerpendicularVincent? Can you just suddenly develop this like I seemed to? I also thought IC was connected to having pain?

I think you should call Bladder Health UK, they can send you some very helpful information, you just donate whatever you can afford.
Ive struggled for years. Most of my tests came back clear. I ended up having a broth culture which picked up the bacteria that hospital 'lab tests' didn't.
Meanwhile take d mannose every few hours and a good probiotic. High dose Vit c and high dose zinc.
Bicarb in water just before bed or some Piriton can help sometimes.
