my ds has a rash which is mainly on his legs, it is however spreading all over his body. I am not overly concerned, although i am now worried because i'm not worried iykwim.

I initially thought it was a heat rash, although when i have put him to bed i have noticed a spot/lump on his hand. I am going to take him to the doctors tomorrow if it hasn't gone (which i dont think it will) but was just wondering if any one had any experience of this and had any ideas?

It doesnt seem to be bothering him at all, which is why i havent been overly worried.

have you done the glass test?

Charlee · 23/09/2007 20:01

Does he have any other symptoms?

dissle · 23/09/2007 20:03

if he has no temperature with it and isnt unwell with it, it could be one of two things.

  1. allergy rash, think washing powder, bath stuff, soap, food. 2)viral rash. if it is viral then it is likely to be gone almost as fast as it has apeared. must say that i am pretty much like you and rarely get concerned about such things.
REIDmylips · 23/09/2007 20:04

have done glass test, cant see any thing.

have spent all aternoon thinking of things that he could have reacted to, but cant think of anything. He has had the rash now for about 3 days. He has been poorly last week but he has cut 4 huge back teeth. Could that be related?

might well be post viral rash

DD had this and was misdiagnosed as chicken pox

now go and look at the soutgport meet up thread, now we have sorted your DS!

REIDmylips · 23/09/2007 20:05

he has had a viral infection in the past - a rash on his tummy, doc gave him antibiotics because he was poorly with the rash, however this time, the rash seems to have appeared as he is getting better (from the teething pain i mean)

Hi know this might be no use to you at all and I certainly have no medical background, but do you use anything that has lanolin in it? It could be in lotions, handwashes anything. My kids used to get a red pin prick rash all over their body, under the skin not on the surface, if they came in contact with it. It gets worse if it's hot. Which is why your child might be getting worse if they are teething and have a temp. If it is that you need good old calpol and pyritin, not sure how old you can be to take the last one though, my kids skin calmed down in couple of hours. If your child has dry skin they can be prone to it too. Oh if it is,put him in something loose and cotton contact with clothes annoys the rash. But please, mummy always knows best, if you think it's getting bad ring the doctor hope that helped!!

ruddynorah · 23/09/2007 20:26

could be roseola, dd had that. basically a viral rash.

emkana · 23/09/2007 20:27

I was going to say roseola, ds had this, did your ds have a temp last week? Basically with roseola you have three days of temp and then the fever goes and baby has a rash for several days. It's viral.

Aitch · 23/09/2007 20:29

has he had his mmr recently? dd got a rash for about a fortnight a couple of weeks after hers.

REIDmylips · 23/09/2007 20:52

no not yet had mr, he has had a high temp last week yes, (just put it down to teething!) and he has had the rash 2 maybe 3 days now, but is showing no signs of going. his hands and feet are generally hot to touch.

Tripletem. Not sure about that one tbh. Think i'm going to try to get him into the docs tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

DS had this, GP said it was a viral rash and that was that. Obviously take him to GP x

REIDmylips · 24/09/2007 19:41

took him to GP, guess what... it's a viral rash!!! Nothing they could do other than recommend calpol.
