Vaginal bleeding with bowel movement.

Hi everyone I just wondered if anyone has experienced this or could offer some reassurance?

I mentioned it to the doctor when it started happening about 6 months ago, but he did not seem concerned and said it could be the pill which is still a possibility.

It seems to be happening more frequently now and today it was bright red blood definitely out of the vagina. No sign of blood or even any brown discharge prior. Bowels were not hard to pass necessarily and I don't generally suffer with constipation.

Previously to this it's been a couple of weeks since but that time it was brown and I had light brown for a couple of days. Then most recently after sex I had brown again the next day.

I've previously had high grade cells removed about 5 years ago but my recent smear came back normal over a year ago.

I will call the GP again tomorrow but not sure what they can do currently. I'm 30yo if that makes a difference.

You could have cervical ectropian? I have this and I get occasional bleeding with a bowel movement (albeit when I am due on and the bowel movement is strained). Worth a trip to the GP but try not to worry too much.

I have had this from time to time too.

Diagnosed with cervical ectropian which was made worse by the pill hormones and improved once I came off.

Now, it only tends to happen when my period is due within the next day or so. It can be quite alarming as the BM causes bright red dripping blood into the loo (and yes, it’s definitely vaginal) and then afterwards it just settles into brownish discharge. It’s like my period trying to kick off but it’s still often a few days after that.

If you look at a diagram you’ll see that everything is quite crammed in inside and that your rectum/bowel and womb / cervix can be back to back, so it’s quite plausible one causes a reaction within the other. However, that’s my ‘non medical’ view, whenever I’ve mentioned to a doctor they’ve seen puzzled but not concerned!

Can I ask what other contraception you use now if not using the pill? I couldn't have the coil due to how much I struggle with internal examinations.

Glad that’s helped you feel better OP. We now just use condoms. Not ideal but I can’t use oral contraceptives for a few reasons and DH is dragging his feet on a vasectomy so condoms it is for now.

Not using any contraception now as we were trying to conceive via IVF due to the loss of my tubes.

I’m not tempted to correlate the bleeding with any of my fertility problems though as the doctors have just never seemed interested. Do you have children?

I had this. Apparently I also have some bumps on my cervix. I was a bit concerned about it but then I got pregnant and I haven't had it since.

I’d also say sounds like an ectropian. They can develop when you are on the pill or pregnant. I had one during pregnancy and it’s bled constantly with a bowel movement. They even sent me for a colposcopy as it wouldn’t stop bleeding but all was fine albeit stressful at the time.

The bumps could be Nabothian cysts, they can rupture and cause bleeding too. They aren’t dangerous though. I used to have them but strangely since having gone through several IVF rounds they’ve never come back.

Yes I've got a DD who is 3 and not had the problem before the last 6 months.

I've had issues with stress incontinence as well and I've read somewhere else online that due to the walls inside being very closely linked it could also be something to do with that?

I also have a cervix which is not quite in the right place.

Just dreading the thought of them having to look 😢
