HIB?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 20/09/2007 21:38

'flu?

i just booked 4 out of 5 of us for flu jabs in two weeks time.

Lio · 20/09/2007 21:41

Same here. ds just about to be 4, appt slip says it's 'to receive protection against Bst HIBMC'. Any the wiser?

SlightlyMadSweden · 20/09/2007 21:43

I would guess HIB is Heamophilus Influenzae (a form of Meningitis) and MC is (menC - also meningitis).

It is probably down to a recentish change in the vaccination shedule

Bst will be Booster

ChasingSquirrels · 20/09/2007 21:43

it the new jab that started about 18mo ago, they are rolling out the catch up with the older children getting it last.
new babies get 3 I think, under 1's get 2 and over 1's get 1.
my 19mo just missed the new schedule and had the catchup at 13mo.

SlightlyMadSweden · 20/09/2007 21:44

I don't hink it is the brand new one. I thought teh new one was prevenar and they were only playing cath-up with under 2's with that.

They did change the schedule for all the others tho when they brought that it.

Its; the hib booster. He's got it because of his birthdate. When they introduced hib they said only one set would be needed, then they found out that whoops it didn't work as well as expected so various children have been boostede at various different ages (they've now introduced a regular hib booster into the vax schedule but he may have missed it depending on when he was born).

gess · 20/09/2007 21:45

oh yeah and I think its ditto for men c.

FrannyandZooey · 20/09/2007 21:46

We missed the last lot of boosters and just went to catch up

they said "oh it's good you didn't bring him before as he would be having to have another one now" They did the whole thing in one

friends who had the boosters at proper time last year are getting called in for another one. They're not impressed.

gess · 20/09/2007 21:49

\link{http://www.immunisation.nhs.uk/files/282940_hib_booster.pdf|here's the NHS} propoganda information

It;s arisen because they thought that hib given as a baby gave 95% protection. In fact in the first year of life it giives less than 50% by the time a child is 2. Hence the booster.

try again
