Tonsil stones

I coughed up a tonsil stone the other day. I absolutely hate them but at least now I understand what the hell was going in my mouth re taste and smell. I became ultra self-concious

Don't know how to get rid of them. I cannot see them. I've started gargling and I can feel a lump at the very back of my throat but I cannot get it out, it's driving me mad

Any advice please?

If you push under or around it they will pop out. Really grim!

Thanks Hex2020 but I cannot see them at all, I can only feel something stuck at the side of my throat

I get these and I HATE them! 🤢

The only thing I've found for prevention is to drink loads! Which I'm usually not good at doing but I have noticed that if I have a stint of drinking very little then one does come along to punish me.

If you can feel that you've got one I'd recommend a dry slice of toast to see if it'll catch it on its way down 😬 has worked for me before. Then like I say, lots of water, brush teeth 2-3 times a day and gargle regularly.

Just keep doing the salt gargling. They work their way to the surface so you can prod them out.

Thanks @VodkaAndDietCokePlease - I was actually wondering if a piece of bread might work. I will try now! I do not drink very much either

Does anyone know why salt gargling and not just gargling? What's the salt doing?

The salt tackles any possible infection, also reduces inflammation. So whether the gubbins is building up because the throat is slightly inflamed, or the throat is inflamed because of the stuff building up, you still want to swish salty water around.

Makes sense, thanks @picklemewalnuts
