How long do hormones take to settle after breastfeeding?

Hi

My dd is 15 months old and I stopped breastfeeding her 7 months ago. My boobs are still leaking!!!! Also my periods are just not the same and I get tearful at that time of the month - things I never suffered with before pregnancy.

My doctor suggests going on the pill which I am not keen on. Has anyone else experienced this and have any tips on how to settle hormones?

Thanks very much.

Hi Meid - sorry to hear that you are having a bad time of it. There are a couple of very good herbs for balancing hormones apparently - although I have never used them myself. Agnus Castus is the main one and is very safe to use - do you have a health food shop or a herbalist near by you? - they would advise you on how much to take etc. Good luck - hope this suggestion helps.

Thank you percy. I've just popped out and bought myself some Agnus Castus. Hopefully it will work but if not, I think I'll look into some alternative medicines a bit more - perhaps see a homeopath.
Thank you for puting me on the right track.

Pleasure Meid - will you let us know how you get on?

I'm reviving this thread as the problem is still continuing.
Thank you for your advice, Percy, all those months ago. I tried the Angus Castus and there was unfortunately no difference.
I've just had blood tests at the doctors which showed no irregularities. However, it is now a year since I stopped breastfeeding and I'm still producing milk.
I just wondered if anyone has any more tips, or maybe anyone experienced the same (at least so I know I'm not alone!).
Many thanks!

it's been six months since I stopped feeding my 2.5 year old. I have the occasional dribble of milk and if I squeeze the nipple milk will come out. In fact felt quite achey (mastitis type ache) last night. Periods back into a regular cycle and yes can feel quite tearful a few days before but I just thought that was the pmt thing which I've heard is worse after a baby.
