Acid reflux

Hi I’m posting this for my partner. He’s been on rinitadine 300 mg for years and this is the only tablet that works for his acid reflux. He had an operation years ago but it didn’t help. With this problem. So he’s been on this medication for about 10 years. Now rinitadine has been discontinued and he can’t get it anywhere. He’s in tears panicking about what to do as he has tried lots of different tablets but nothing helped. Any ideas were he can get rinitadine? Willing to try online chemists, Ireland. Iv told him to speak to the doctor but hes so negative that nothing else will work, but he’s no choice but to try other medication.

Try esomeprazole at the pharmacy, gaviscon does a version and it works well. However a higher dose may be needed and he’ll have to speak to a GP. This may be easier right now as it’s via the phone so he won’t even need to leave the house.

Has he ever been tested for H pyloric? I suffered with reflux for years and years also and had it without knowing. GP can send off a stool sample or breath test and treatment is a simple, triple therapy course. I spend years buying my own omeprazole, and wish I'd been tested years ago. I've never had it again since being treated!

He’s had acid reflux for years and years. They have never got to the bottom of it. He’s even had an operation about ten years ago, but didn’t help. He’s just taken the ranitidine for years and kept quiet as it takes the reflux away.

My husband was also on ranitadine.
My baby should be on it.
but due to all forms being recalled, you will not be able to get any.
It has been recalled due to manufacturing issues, some people say it’s because the older batches contain a carcinogen, my husband was told by a hospital pharmacist, it is because the manufacturers are recalling ingredients due to covid.
My husband has been started on lanzoprazole, it seems to be working

Omeprazole should work just as well as a substitution drug, if he goes back to.his GP for a new prescription.

The doctors wrote out a prescription for omeprazole, it didn’t work years ago but he said he’ll try it anyway. He might need to try a few to get the right medication if this doesn’t work. I think the stress made him worse. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions xx

I found Lansoprazole didn't work very well to start with, but after about a month and making sure I followed the instructions exactly (i.e. take first thing in the morning, wait half to one hour before eating), it now works a treat.

I'm pregnant and generally avoid medications. I wake up most nights with reflux and have found natural yoghurt to help. They do a 500g pot in Tesco for 55p. It's instant relief.

Avoiding acidic or sugary food- meats, carbs really helps, especially before bed, as does upping the intake of alkaline foods such as veg.

Can't help with the medication side though, sorry
