shard stuck in foot for weeks

i have had a shard of glass stuck in my foot for weeks .I have tried various times and cant get it out,its driving me mad.I cant walk on my foot properly without pain and don't know what i should do.

I don't do well with chest infections due to childhood asthma so i really don't want to go to the doctors considering things at the moment .Plus its just a shard stuck in my foot it shouldn't be this problematic.I really dont like the idea of bothering a doctor with something so mundane .

So what to do =/

Go to the doctor if it hurts so much.
On the other hand if the shard is not stuck too deep you can use a sharp sewing needle ( disinfect it first) , some rubbing alcohol and a tweezer. Just remove the skin over the shard with the needle and pull it out with the tweezer. Disinfect the wound afterwards. I have done it a lot of times, requires a little patience but does not hurt.

i have tried basically that all my different tweezers ,i think it must be deep .Thus why i am having so much trouble

Speak to your GP for advice.
You may have to go to A&E.
IME A&E departments are very quiet ATM and well organised in terms of infection control.

You'll need to get it removed if you can't do it yourself.

If you are really unkeen to call the GP - - - Try some magnesium sulphate paste (buy from chemist or make your own with some Epsom salts and a little water) . Put it on twice daily under a plaster and it should draw it out.

A old home remedy is to slice an onion, and tape a piece to the affected area pop a sock on and sleep with it. Usually works after a night or 2.

Then use a good antiseptic cream once it is out for a day or so, before switching to something like sudocrem to dry it up!!!

I don't think there's anything a GP can do if they can't see the glass. I thought I had glass in my foot a few years ago, and I had to go to A&E for an X-ray.

Don't put off getting medical help, it's important, and everything will be made as a safe as possible.

This happened to me a few years ago. I called 101 and they booked an appointment at A&E for me that evening. I had an X Ray on my foot and then I had local anaesthetic to have the piece pulled out. The nurse wasn't sure he could get it out at first, as it was very deep, and said I'd be looking at foot surgery if that was the case. Even after he manages to get it out, he wasn't 100% sure he'd got it all, so gave me a magnesium paste to draw it out and then I had 2 follow up appointments at my local gp surgery to check it was ok.

So, please get in touch, as they do take this part of thing seriously.

How is it now?

Make a paste with bicarb and water. Coat it thickly and then put a plaster on (or any kind of tape really). This will draw anything that is in there out. change it daily and you will quickly see the end protruding. Possibly within 24 hours if it's close to the surface.

i have to wait for the weekend my other half still works.So i cant leave the children unattended.Foots still in a lot of pain but what can i do really apart from wait then go on weekend
