Anyone know more than me and have any suggestions? I've had a sore throat for 3 weeks now with mucus. It's getting frustrating. Doctor gave me antibiotics after a week incase it was tonsilitis. They done nothing to help. I've been gargling with salt water, drinking honey and lemon and lots of water. Taking antihistamines incase is hayfever and using nasal spray to help clear the mucus. I have no cold symptoms just these two. Anyone else had this before?
Really don't want to keep bothering my doctor but I've never had a sore throat go on this long!

Are you drinking more alcohol than usual? Sometimes the relaxed sleep can make you snore which irritates a throat. (I always know if I'm rundown if my throat is sore so take extra care of diet and sleep and it generally helps).

@Mumdiva99 no, I am breastfeeding so no drinking Brew
I'm one of those people that only gets a sore throat a couple of days before a cold. I've upped my fruit intake and take vitamins daily too Confused

I had exactly that and finally went to the doctor's with it after 4 weeks, a few days before lockdown. It felt like when I had glandular fever as a teenager, so they tested for that, but all tests came back normal.

I didn't think it was coronavirus, because I didn't have a cough or a fever, but shortly after seeing the doctor I got a cough and sore eyes and lost my sense of taste and smell, then got a runny nose too. I still don't know if the whole thing was corona or none of it was, or if I had a throat infection followed by cv! I'm better now though. Hope yours clears up soon OP!

AvocadoPrime · 08/05/2020 17:36

@lazylinguist did they give you antibiotics or anything? I thought it was CV as I was in bed for a few days with no energy. Felt terrible. Tested negative though. I am glad you're better!
I've got a phone call booked with the GP for tomorrow so hopefully they can shed some light as I'm stumped.

No, the doctor said she was pretty sure it was viral not bacterial, but neither she nor I remotely thought it could be cv at the time,
because no cough or fever. But that was before the drip drip of information about possible other cv symptoms. It wasn't until I got the eye infection and loss of smell and taste that I really thought it might be cv. I'd really like to know if I've had it or not! Best of luck with the gp, OP.

@lazylinguist thank you. I have just spoken to GP. They have prescribed antibiotics but said if they dont work its viral and it can take a few weeks to clear.

I had an epic sore throat from around Christmas till March: long story short, it turned out to be nothing serious. I was back and forth to the GP, had 10 days of antibiotics, swab, referral to a consultant, head MRI, the works. Nothing found. Eventually it just went on its own. Mine also came with a one sided ear ache which was a red flag hence the MRI. Quite a few of us were on a thread around that time with the same thing, so maybe it's a bug this year. Hope you feel better soon!

@ShoesJerry hi! I'm glad it was nothing serious and that you got properly checked out! Also glad it went. It's awful.
How long until it went? If you dont mind me asking did you have mucus? I've had a bit of ear ache with mine too. The antibiotics the doctor gave me made me really sick about 4 hours after taking them. I couldnt keep anything down so didnt take anymore :(
Feeling rough in epic proportions today!

Yes, my throat was really mucusy too. It started right before Christmas and ended probably late March? It started with a dreadful cough, the worst one I've ever had, then settled into an endless sore throat with ear pain for a good two months. I felt properly ill with it for ages, quite fluey really. Glad it's over, hope yours doesn't take as long!

You can read our other thread: Feel like my throat is going to hurt forever . You can probably search for it - sorry, don't know how to link to it.

@ShoesJerry I've just had a read. Did you try the lymphatic drainage massage video? I just attempted it but my arms were burning halfway throughGrin

No, I didn't. Am not even sure what it is!
