Nothing has been confirmed yet, and could be nothing wrong. But I'm getting increasingly panicked about my fertility. I don't even need to particularly worry yet. I'm getting married but wont be ttc for another few years. 28 this year.

Anyway, I've always had erratic periods. These are getting more and more unstable. My last one was 2 months ago, and it was very very light. They can be anywhere from 2 months to 2 weeks apart and are usually very light and only last a couple of days. I have a very dull pain in my pelvic area on the left quite frequently.

More recently, say over the last few months, I've had severe cramps after sex that last about half an hour. Not every time. Maybe 1/5 of the time.

The doctor is setting up a scan. Have to do an sti check (no chance!) first. Have had recent smear which came back clear. I was on hormonal contraception (depo and then implant) for years but have this year stopped them and use condoms when they're needed.

I'm just getting very worried, as my mum always had huge gyney problems. I was a 'miracle baby' who wasn't supposed to happen. Shes had to have surgery for fibroids twice. Always had issues with very erratic, but very heavy, Has been through early menopause.

I don't know why I'm posting really. Rant. Should I be worried about it? I'm so scared of waiting of having to wait to fix any issues, and of them getting worse or it being too late. Has anyone had similar? Just feeling blue. Sad

Also doc said even if it is something like pcos or fibroids, nothing will be done unless I'm trying to conceive. Will that delay trying for ages?

Hi @Dommina I have some insight into your query from my previous career some years ago. Firstly, you're young so time is on your side. You say you came off the depo only this year which isn't long, it does take a while for your system to settle down. Lots of people have irregular cycles and actually get pregnant quite quickly but you won't know this until you start ttc. You're planning on leaving that until your early 30's so in the meantime you could always ask to be referred and have a simple blood test to check your egg reserve. This will put your mind at rest as it's usually good at your age but it often starts to deplete from age 33 onwards. If you're worried about your fallopian tubes being blocked you can ask to have a test called HSG which is a straight forward procedure done without anesthetic where dye is inserted into the womb and will be seen flowing through the tubes on an ultrasound screen if there isn't any blockage. This test can also check for fibroids at the same time. Fibroids are not usually inherited to my knowledge. Try not to worry. You are taking control of your fertility now which is good as too many people leave it too late when there isn't as much time left to sort out any potential problems. Don't fall into the trap either of thinking freezing your eggs is an easy option. It's not. It's expensive and there are risks involved despite what clinics lead you to believe. The other major fact is they freeze fairly easily but don't defrost as easily which is the important part. Good luck, I'm sure it will work out fine for you x
