Noises from rectum and side

CaraJulyDreams · 02/05/2020 09:25

I don't really expect any solutions, to be honest. This has been going on for over 30 years.

I get frequent embarrassing noises from my rectum that can sound like I'm passing wind, but can also be rumbles, squeaks, bullet-type noises(!) etc. I'm so tired of it, after so long.

I also get odd noises at the left side of my waist, as if I need to insert a tap there to relieve some pressure!

The only time it's ever eased off has been when I've been pregnant, which makes me wonder if it's some kind of structural issue. It's not painful or anything.

I'm fit and healthy, pretty good diet etc. I have tried to pinpoint dietary causes so many times - kept food diaries etc - but nothing has ever jumped out.

I'm usually fine in the morning, but it's the afternoons and evenings when it can start happening. I end up completely distracted from what I'm doing, as I'm trying to shift around to avoid making a noise. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it means my body is tensed up an awful lot of the time.

After all this time it just feels like it's part of "me" and I'll never get a solution, but just posting on the offchance there might be someone out there who has experienced similar.

Hey. Do you have them anymore? I’m currently having the same problems. Constant stomach and anus noises and they tend to be getting worse.

RedorangeyellowBLACK · 05/06/2022 13:23

I get this too.
Ive had IBS for 24 years but it’s all been worse since Perimenopause.
My whole digestive system gurgles and growls all the time, it’s so disconcerting.
The worse is when it’s in my recital area as I’m never sure if it’s just gas or if I need the loo. I often have endless trips to the loo only for it to be a giant fart!
Its all very well people saying just let it out, IBS farts are bloody noisy!

Try drinking a fuckload of water, like 2 litres in a short time. Not sure why but it seems to work. Maybe it fills your intestines or something

I have exactly what you have described. I've had it for 40 years now and its never gotten better. Like you, I've been to doctors about it and they have been no help. I eat a pretty health diet, don't drink or smoke. It has been so embarrassing and life changing... I can only dream what my life would be like if I didn't have this problem. The one thing that seems to abate the noises from my rectum is not having a bowel movement in the morning. Its almost like there are no open pockets for gas to get trapped. I know weird..right?? The problem is that when I do have a bowel movement, after a short while the dreadful and embarrassing sounds in my rectum return. I see its been a couple of years since your initial post...have you had any luck in getting cured?

just wondering if anyone has ever been on accutane? My problem tends to get better if I can have a bowel movement and much worse if I’m not having enough. I am struggling at work and to have a relationship. Sometimes I feel extremely down. It’s humiliating:(

This is also happening to me- it’s so embarrassing and frustrating especially since I’m still in college and the bodies are 24/7. My GP said I have ibs but didn’t give me any medications or anything…I feel hopeless.

Depressedxxx · 17/05/2023 19:34

This is me and I’m only just 18…my life is literally hell and people say I’m exaggerating…”everyone stomach gurgles”- No, mine is 24/7. I literally have to be so tensed and worried whenever I’m in a quiet setting…the only thing that keeps me sane is crying.

Hi,
I have started having this problem the past few months, definitely made worse from stress. I have been to see various GPS who have diagnosed IBs but given no medication.
I started accupuncture which has relieved my symptoms a bit. Has anyone had any positive news?? I’m not sure what I should do next. I am only 20 years old and was fine before a few months ago when my exams started. I am dairy & gluten free which hasn’t helped.

Urbnurb · 24/07/2023 20:03

Hi, I had this problem for years and manages to resolve it by cutting down on salt, drinking more water, taking potassium supplements and eating more insoluble fiber such as carrots.

Urbnurb · 31/07/2023 20:11

Also what really helped for me was cutting out soluble fiber. Rice and potatoes were especially bad.

FictionalCharacter · 31/07/2023 21:49

@Depressedxxx @unknownxx Try seeing a registered dietitian, ideally one who specialises in IBS. Nothing helped me until a dietitian diagnosed what my problem was. Going gluten and dairy free hadn’t worked. Medication from the GP made little difference. There are many possible triggers for IBS apart from the well known ones, but you probably need a professional to work it out.
You need to keep a food and symptoms diary for a couple of weeks before.

One of the things I need to do is to have 3 proper meals a day with no snacking. This makes a big difference. If I graze on bits and pieces, it’s disastrous.

Hi there. You can also consider H.pylori infection. A stool sample to confirm this bacteria in your gut could be helpful. If positive, combination of two antibiotics metronidazole and amoxicillin if you don’t have allergies to these could solve the problem. Of course some doses of PPI and antispasmodic drugs together with the antibiotics works like magic. I got rid of mine that way and it’s never happened since I did
