What is the general consensus on sending DCs to school with colds?

Help, first time school mummy here, he started reception last week and this morning has a stuffed up nose and feels a bit poorly...not too bad as far as I can tell.

Obviously I don't want him to miss his two hours this morning if possible, but I don't want him to go and share it with all the other kids...I'm not sure I'd want their mums to send them if they had colds.

What's the protocol, please? There's nothing in the school literature.

Thanks.

If he hasn't a temperature it should be OK to go, otherwise he will be off all winter.

If a temp and feeling poorly, best keep at home. Go with your instict on how he is and will cope.

if it was just a stuffed up nose I'd say send him in , as my kids constantly have stuffed up noses throught the winter.

But as he's feeling poorly as well, I wouldn't send him.

can you keep him home?

Thankyou for answering, well no temp at the mo so perhaps he'll be Ok. I can keep him here, no problem, I'll not be doing much...

but I think you're right about it being an 'off all winter' scenario if I don't make some sort of distinction!

...mention to the teacher and they will call you if they think he needs to go home.

I always go by how they feel. If he feels poory or is very hot, then keep him off - if not, not. I'm afraid that if everybody kept them off if they had colds, there would be practically empty classes most of the winter!

if feverish, then stay at home, if 'just' a cold, go to school. you can always collect him if he gets worse.

as has been said, they'll be off all winter otherwise
