Depends what flavour you have, I’ve only tasted some to see what I’m giving to patients. They generally prefer the milky ones.
I’ve had the natural flavour one when having a GTT, it tastes like syrupy lemonade.

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2020 12:07

I had to have it in my early 20s so decades ago after a bowel op anyway they just taste like milkshake I only liked the strawberry,

Chasingsquirrels · 29/04/2020 12:19

I think it's trial and error. Late-DH had them and didn't like the juices at all but didn't mind some of the milky ones. His district nurse got him a mutlipack with various flavours and then ordered the particular ones he liked.

He was also advised to make up fortified milk, use powdered milk (not skimmed) and make it up with actual milk not water.
I'm sure he will have a dietician involved, but just thought I'd pass that one on.

They're much better cold and slightly diluted. The company that make them actually produce a cook book too. Might be worth a look

mrsbyers · 29/04/2020 12:30

Ice cold improves them a lot

If no food at all is being consumed, I think it was 6 a day at least.

You can also get super concentrated shots. Calshot they're called. They're handy too for when you can't face a 'big' bottle. You can add them to regular food or the fortsip itself to boost the calorific content.

They used to do soup which I quite liked and gave me a feeling of eating iyswim.

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2020 13:02

Ah that might have been Complan soup .

ch3rrycola · 29/04/2020 13:07

Banana and Vanilla are the best, so sweet and delicious 😋

Soubriquet · 29/04/2020 13:09

Strawberry! Loved it

I used to have fortisip. Got changed to fresubin which is a lot sweeter

Still ok though

Soubriquet · 29/04/2020 13:11

I have them once a day and I’ve gained a lot of weight since. I drink straight out of the bottle, no dilution

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/04/2020 13:12

I can't stand them.
I still have some here but I'm forcing myself to eat so I don't have to drink them.
They are marginally better than Ensure though.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 29/04/2020 13:19

I loved Ensure - chocolate or strawberry were best. Vanilla was ok too. Had them when I had to regain weight.

CalmYoBadSelf · 29/04/2020 14:10

One of the key things is not to replace meals with them as you then reduce your food intake. My Dad was told they should always be taken between mealtimes if supplementing food and to use Food First guidelines for the food you do eat (including the fortified milk @Chasingsquirrels mentioned)
