Bumping to see if anyone can help!

Buttons4me · 28/04/2020 22:14

Thankyou For the bump. It's what's classed as my wrist area? But does it have a specific name? I've had trouble since the 4th April. With my thumb base area, very limited movement in my thumb, I can't move my thumb, and my wrist and the area in the pictures. I just feel like I've got a chipped bone in that area even if that sounds a bit odd. I have my wrist and thumb strapped up through out the day and at night as they feel so weak. Anyone know a specific name if there is for that area too in the pictures. Thankyou

Could it be the beginnings of rheumatoid arthritis? I have similar symptoms and would describe my whole wrist and hands as weak/no grip and I've recently been diagnosed it's RA.

Playdoughbum · 28/04/2020 22:16

Have you fallen on it at all?
I don’t know what that bone is called but when I broke my scaphoid that’s where it hurt and I couldn’t use my thumb properly.
Might want to get an x ray?

lilgreen · 28/04/2020 22:17

Ganglion?

ihearttea · 28/04/2020 22:19

The 'dip' around the base of your thumb/ inner wrist is your anatomical snuff box.

Elouera · 28/04/2020 22:19

Anatomical snuffbox! Its technically a little further towards the wrist than your black dot, but look it up.

If you are avoiding A&E, there might be a minor injuries unit or walk in centre nearby.

lilgreen · 28/04/2020 22:19

Sorry misread. I thought you meant a bump.Must put specs on.

Buttons4me · 28/04/2020 22:20

My gp has said they aren't doing any x ray referrals at the moment. Could it be my scaphoid? I have no grip, I can't move my thumb up or down or to the side. It feels so weak. I need to have my wrist and thumb strapped.

Another thought it tendonitis- inflammation of the tendon there.

Elouera · 28/04/2020 22:23

When I had tendonitis, I had such a weakened hand. I couldn't hold a cup, tie up my hair and had no strength in my thumb at all. I was given a thumb splint hand strap which helped a great deal and within a few days I was using it again. It did flare again though a month later when I was doing vigorously kneading dough for ages! But again, the strap for a few days helped.

Hagisonthehill · 28/04/2020 22:23

It's probably a ganglion cyst.Dd has on that builds up and the goes, then builds up.It makes her wrist sore and she had trouble when she had her mock GCSEs.She has a wrist brace that stops her moving her wrist too much and that reduces the pain.
I have offered to hit it with a heavy book but she has declined.
If they get bad they can be drained but tend to come back.

Buttons4me · 28/04/2020 22:24

I haven't had a fall. This started on April 4th. I've phoned my gp about it but she said I have to appreciate that no referrals are being done at the moment. I will have a read about the snuff box thankyou.

I had tendonitis here and it was specifically called Dr Quervains tenosynovitis. It's also known as mothers thumb as it's associated with carrying babies and young children. GP prescribed a thumb splint which you can get on amazon and voltarol gel. If that didn't solve it I was going to need steroid injections. It took a month or so of daily gel and splint wearing but it did get better.

This is similar to what the minor injuries unit gave me:

My Daughter has had to tie my hair up when I want it up. I can't wash dishes, I can't hoover, I cant use scissors etc my daughter had to turn the tap on and brush my teeth. It feels so weak.

This is exactly the symptoms I had. Putting up my hair was impossible.

zeeeex · 28/04/2020 22:34
