Doxycycline antibiotic effects

Following on from my last post a week ago..
I’ve now been on doxycycline for a week. Felt fine before taking them, it was just as a precaution due to a tick bite
After 2/3 days, I started feeling really tired and further bites from something else have come up, driving me crazy with itching.

I can’t shake off this nausea I’m getting I feel so tired and off my food. I hate feeling so groggy. Are these normal side effects from this antibiotic?

The nausea thing...what are you eating/drinking with them? Make sure you sot up for a while after having them and have a full glass of water. Can burn your oesophagus otherwise. Trust me indid it!

Not sure about groggy. Inusually feel fine on them. What does leaflet say?

Hope you ok

Have you been in sun recently? It can make a horrible itchy rash when you on them if you go in the sun. I had that too.

Soubriquet · 28/04/2020 18:52

I literally had it about two weeks ago and it worked wonders

Make sure you eat before taking them and remain upright for 30 mins

Don’t take any iron products 2 hours before or after

Stay out of the sun where possible

I've had doxy a lot of times and if I didn't take it with food I would get the most unbelievable heart burn and nausea. Definitely don't take it on an empty stomach!

blissfulllife · 28/04/2020 19:06

I found eating before I took my doxy helped with the nausea

Ds is on a low dose long term for acne. He's been taking them since the start of lockdown and at the moment he seems okay. He does have a very poor appetite although that is a long term issue for him.

Realitea · 28/04/2020 19:46

Well due to us being in lockdown I’m permanently eating anyway so definitely taking on a full stomach 😆
I take my iron tablet in the middle of the day then one antibiotic in the morning and one at night.
I definitely feel groggy. It gets worse as the day goes on. Can’t help wondering if I’ve picked up them virus’ while at the chemist that day. I hope not..
the itchiness is just around one ankle and I’ve been covered up apart from the day I got the tick bite. Dd also got bites that day.
I might check with the pharmacist about the tiredness/groggy feeling as I’m not sure it’s a known side effect

That should say ‘picked up the virus’ as in coronavirus
