Mole removal - what to expect

Hi there,
Unfortunately I had to have a dodgy red raised mole on my thigh checked out last week (amid a pandemic) and they immediately cut it out under local anaesthetic. It's being tested, but results not back until end of May. So a while to wait...
I've got stitches and just trying to avoid infection. It's got steristrips over it and I haven't removed these since it was done last Wednesday. I have sprayed a bit of antiseptic spray on the wound and kept it covered up. Completely paranoid about it as it feels a bit hot and itchy but maybe this is normal? Just don't want to bother the docs.
Also, trying not to worry - but how likely is it that a mole will be something serious? It's ages to wait for results. It was a new, red, slightly raised mole on my left thigh. I waited about six months to get it checked - I realise that's silly but I thought it was nothing.
Thanks

Itchy is possibly good? Wounds get itchy when they are healing.

Did they say how long to keep it covered? Maybe ring docs and ask.

I had a mole removal last year. Think I recall it itching as it healed but was on my back where I couldn't mess with it. I was told to leave it for 48-72 hours or so then remove dressing, wash, apply new dressing daily.
It is stressful waiting for results and wondering what if but lots turn out to be fine. Fingers crossed for you, and that the wait isn't too awful. My dermatologist was v negative about mine but turned out to be fine

Had several removed.

I've always been told to leave them alone with the original dressing until the stitches are removed.

Itching is entirely normal. As a pale skinned redhead I'm at high risk but all mine have been OK so far - even some really dodgy looking ones
