Last Tuesday after having ear ache my ear began to ooze blood and puss I rang the gp who diagnosed perforated ear drum and infection I had a slight fever as well.

I’ve now been on amoxicillin nearly 5 days the finishes tomorrow I’m still having the odd fever and earache and I’ve been putting in antibiotic drops once a day also. I’m obviously going to ring gp Monday.

What I wanted to ask is has anyone had similar also my hole family’s shielding so I can’t really go dr and come back to my immune compromised son what are the odds they’ll perscribe more antibiotics over the phone ?

They would if you still have fever. I am surprised why they did not prescribe you for 5 days and not 7 which is usual course but may be they gave you a higher dosage. For some people amoxicillin does not work because of drug resistance so you might be prescribed something different this time.

  • I meant they should have prescribed for 7 days

My eardrum perforated as a child due to a very bad infection. I remember lying on a towel crying in pain as my ear oozed. I sympathise with you.

I would be very sure that you will have a second prescription by phone and possibly a stronger antibiotic even. Amoxicillin is very good though for this sort of thing.

Be very careful not to get water in your ear, I had to keep a cotton wool wad in my ear for 6 months when I had a bath or shower.

You are going to feel awful for a while and you must try to rest as much as you can.

I feel so sorry for you. Feel better soon xx

Thank you still in pain Sad just hoping the doctors as good as they where last week. If anyone else reads this is normal to have a near constant headache with it?
