Any medics out there!

So I've been waiting for a ring back from the GO all of yesterday afternoon and all today. Rang at 4pm today to be told we're still on the list and will get a phone call...thinking this is unlikely!!
So ds 6 yrs old got a friction burn on his big toe 3 days ago. Yesterday he showed me the toe with has become swollen and formed a spontaneous fluid filled blister on top of it. He's neither worn socks or shoes for weeks so not caused by rubbing. The blister has a red line around it - redness extending around the friction burn. The toe is painful if pressed but he can walk on it. I've included pictures. Any ideas?? FYI the blister got bigger overnight last night.

As an ENP in urgent care, I would pop the blister.
However....is the redness tracking up his toe towards the foot? Does it feel warmer than the other toes? Has he got a fever or feel unwell? Is it getting more painful? All of those could be signs of infection & he should be seen by someone - Dr / urgent care etc...
If not....you could sterilise a needle in a flame until it glows red & wait for it to cool (a minute or so). Use the sterile needle to pop the blister & release the fluid which will help resolve the pain. If you pop the blister along the skin rather than from above it shouldn't be painful as the top layer of skin forming the blister has no nerves

Thanks for replying - redness hasn't changed so far hence my not rushing anywhere...yet! He has no fever and is fine in himself. The toe does look swollen though. I'm confused as to the spontaneous blister...does that happen often? If it were one of my other children I'd definitely have a go at popping them blister but ds is VERY sensitive and wouldn't let us do it. He would let a nurse though if needs be.

Then do take him to urgent care / whatever facility you have near you. They are still open & will see him if you are worried

Wait until he is asleep.

Use a pair of nail clippers to knick the blister, works perfectly and won't feel it.

Of course ensure the clippers are decontaminated and have been soaked in a solution to clean first.
