puncture wound? advice needed (photos)

DS (4) stood on something ‘sharp’ on Sunday. He was very upset at the time (very painful) but we could see no mark... we thought he had maybe been stung or bitten by something? It seemed to resolve ok and he was fine yesterday, however this morning the toe is hot and swollen with a spreading patch of redness. There seems to be a very slight suggestion of a puncture mark on the bottom(?)

We will obviously be keeping an eye on it but any suggestions on how to treat? Will try to soak in salt water etc?

pic 3 of the other foot for comparision.

Many thanks

I'd try in warm salty water for 5 minutes but then dry and use a pen to draw around the redness, if it spreads anymore of the next couple of hours I'd be inclined to get it looked at as my require antibiotics. Was he outside when he stood on something?

Thanks. Yes he was in the garden...

I think I'd be contacting my GP. It's been 2 days and the redness is going up top too. I'd be worried about infection.

Does he have a fever? Check if not done so already. I too would monitor the redness and see how/if its tracking up the foot and leg. Do you have skype/zoom? GP might do a remote consult using video, rather than going into the surgery. Might be cellulitis from an infection.

Another option is a walk-in centre or minor injuries unit. I'd check firstly though that they can A) see children that age, and B) are able to prescribe antibiotics if needed.

Thanks all for your help. After soaking it improved a bit and after resting it for the afternoon the redness and swelling reduced.

All back to normal now thank goodness

Slather it in Avalon at night too. Will help keep it from getting reinfected.
