infection after having tooth out advice pls

hi i just wondered if there was any dentists on here who could give me some advice?>.......i had a back top tooth out on monday and i ended going back to dentist yesterday because i was in lots of pain... she said it was infected and it is quite common....is it common? she never gave me any antibiotics as i am on some already for a water infection... so how long will it take to heal? if any one could give me some general advice pls that would be great?

Not a dentist, but hope this helps - I believe it is really common - given that it was an infected tooth that was removed - and if your current course of antbiotics don't see it off, you do need to go back and see her again.

I have had an infection following an extraction. Presumably your dentist knows exactly what antibiotics you are already taking for the UTI, so there's no reason to take another set if the first lot are suitable, IYSWIM. Definitely go back to her if it's not 100% cleared up by the time you finish your course. To be certain, I would book an appointment for the day after your antibiotics finish, and cancel it if you don't need it. It won't clear up on its own, antibiotics are the only answer, AFAIK, but they do work.

In the meantime, sloosh some very warm salty water around in your mouth several times a day, especially after meals. It soothes and helps to keep the wound clean and reduce swelling.
