Best day of cycle for a cervical smear

Hi

I've been having murders trying to get an appointment for a smear. Would day 21 of my cycle be ok? I thought it was best to be mid-cycle. I don't want any mistakes as had a bad smear result about 13 years ago...

they do say mid cycle is best

call the gp and ask to speak to the nurse and check

Thanks so much for your speedy reply. The receptionist has tried to fob me off but think I'll insist on an appointment next month when mid-cycle.

Exact timing isn't so important, as long as there's no active menstrual bleeding or used spermicides, lubricants etc in previous 24 hours.

link here says mid-cycle you get the clearest background picture but anytime is fine if you can't make an appointment then.
