Thrush

Never had thrush previous to this but have had ongoing thrush (since December) and wanted to ask if anyone has any advice on home remedies so I don’t bother the doctor again when it’s such a difficult time.
I self diagnosed in December and bought caneston duo from supermarket.
When that didn’t clear it I went to the drs who swabbed and confirmed I had thrush and nothing else and recommended pharmacy treatment. I went for pessary that time.
It still didn’t clear up so went back to the drs beginning of March and she prescribed an oral tablet.
Treatment seems to help a bit but then the symptoms get worse again and by week three I’m extremely uncomfortable and internally itchy again.
If anyone knows of anything I can do that has helped them I’d be very grateful.

Do you have a partner that could be passing it back to you? You maybe need a course of treatment rather than one off tablets/pessaries

After a time it can be throughout the system and you need an oral treatment, topical ones won't work. Repeated thrush can indicate an under-treated/untreated autoimmune problem like a thyroid disorder or diabetes.

you have to be careful that your partner and yourself are not keep passing it back and forth get your partner to put cream on as well.
yes try an oral tablet and to be honest if its bad i use a pessary same time
you have my sympathy its horrible oh yes and try to cut down on sugar

Haven’t had sex since it all started so no worries about being passing between partner and I.

Caneston leaflet says not to use more than once in 6 months so I’m reluctant to buy again especially as three doses haven’t worked so far.

I will cut down on sugar in the meantime but think I’ll probably have to try and speak to a dr.

Mum suggested using yoghurt?

You need to go to the GP and tell them it hasn't gone away. They will put you on a 6 month course of fluconazole (1 a week, with I think 1 of 3 days at the start). If they don't offer it, tell them you want it (this is referred to on this page in the section about recurring thrush www.nhs.uk/conditions/thrush-in-men-and-women/ )

If it comes back after that go back to the dr, and keep a good record of all the times you've had thrush and what treatments you've taken.

(I've had chronic thrush and done the 6 month treatment a bunch of times, then 12 months, now on a different anti-fungal. I really recommend sorting it out with the dr sooner rather than later because there are medicines that can help, and if you don't sort it you could get vaginisimus, which is not nice)

Thank you Alez I will call them tomorrow afternoon see if I can talk to someone, I feel awful for bothering gps over something relatively minor compared to what others are going to right now

Natural yoghurt !! Smother a load on a sanitary towel too it's really good at relieving itch.

If it makes you feel better @Redredwine99 they may not be as busy as you think....my GPs online surgery shows loads more appointments than normal. I think people aren't using them for minor things very much right now. You shouldn't feel bad though anyway, it's important to sort these things out!

Mmm I’ve had it constantly for about 2 years every month on my period!!

No idea why! I’ve never had it in my past it just come now every period. It’s not connected to my pill as I’ve tried different different types of protection.

I was prescribed tables for three months straight which were good but my lips would swell every time so I stopped them. I stopped baths... I gave my man the thrush pill I’ve tried bloody everything!!

I’ve come to the conclusion mine is related to my hormones!! It’s every month end of period! I’ve been told unfortunately it’s one of those things... fucking great!! 🙈

I had this issue after.having my.little girl. I stopped using shower gel to wash just water. Switched back to bio washing powder. And I took 3 doses of over counter in 3 days, oral and cream. I'd been to docs who told.me the prescription would be same.as over counter but for 6 months and can have issues with gut biome and other stuff. So thought I'd try having lots myself Wasn't cheap but not had it in over a year now.

@Kel9 strongly recommend the same advice I gave further up the thread. That was my problem too - you need a long low dose of antifungals (and some women stay on them for years according to my go). Hope it gets sorted x

Also wash your bits with emollient. E45 or aqueous cream!

Alez thank you... funny enough this month I’ve not had it yet .... 🤔 I was out in the 3 months of the thrush tablets but got a bad reaction on my lips (face) lol. So a doctor told me to stop.

I’ll go back though as there might be something else I can take. X
