Bleeding after poo warning tmi sorry

Sorry in advance of the details, I’m a bit concerned and I don’t want to waste doctors time if I can treat it at home myself so I’m hoping someone here can shed some light on what’s wrong with me.
I’ve been having stomach cramps for around a month, I go to the toilet as normal, sometimes some constipation which improves after a few days. I assumed IBS so began watching what I ate, but nothing has changed. The pain would sometimes be so bad I could describe it as contractions during labour, but it would eventually stop after a few hours.
It went away for about a week but today I went to the toilet after the pains began and the bowl was full of blood when I got up, definitely not my period but looked like it was. The bleeding stopped within 5 minutes, and I’ve had some mild constipation type cramps since. Feeling a bit light headed, but that may not be related.
Should I be concerned? It’s never happened to me before. NHS website says it is an emergency as it could be internal bleeding, but with everything going on right now I don’t want to waste their time and I’ve been ok since it happened.
Is there anything I can do?

Are you constipated? Did you strain at all? Did you have any pain in your hole whilst going?

What colour was the blood?

Thanks for replies. It was bright red and yes I did have to strain a bit, possibly a tear? There aren’t any normal doctors appointments in my area for the near future as I tried to get one for my daughter yesterday, it would have to be the emergency care in the hospital which isn’t ideal at the moment.

If it's bright red, it almost certainly isn't internal bleeding. That doesn't mean it's not painful or that you don't need care, but I hope that's a little reassuring.

I'd see someone that isn't normal surely keep us updated

And it CERTAINLY doesn’t mean it’s not bowel cancer. Please please see someone. As most of my family - until mine and my cousins generation - have died of bowel cancer I can tell you with some authority that it can be. The colour of the blood is a myth. Of course it might not be, but you need a colonoscopy.

This is misleading. The colour of the blood indicates where it came from. The redder it is, the more likely it is to be an innocent bleed due to a tear close to the anus.

But it's not a guarantee that that's what it is, so still needs checking out as soon as you can, OP.

Yes indeed, but to say red blood means it not internal bleeding is totally and utterly wrong.

Also fast transit can mean blood from higher up can be red.

Call the doc. They will telephone consult you and invite you in if you need an exam.

I have had an anal tear for three weeks and it gets painful.
