Ever since i got pregnant i had awful pain in my right knee, thought it was just due to carrying a bit of extra weight (i had lost a lot and even at my heaviest in pregnancy i still wasn't the heaviest i'd ever been) thought it would go but NO. I now have pain in both knees constantly, getting up off the floor is a task, bending them for too long and then straightening them makes me sob and when i'm on my period i can't even get off the toilet unaided. It flares up the worst on my period. Has anybody else experienced this? I need a doctors appointment but slim chance of getting one anytime soon.

Similar happened to me, but some weeks after dc1 was born. Turned out to be caused by fallen arches. I had orthotics and physio on my knees, and have used orthotics ever since.

Good luck with getting the NHS to deal with it at this time! But it's probably still worth going to the GP a and accepting that the waiting list will be long. If you can afford £50 a session, it's definitely worth seeing a private physiotherapist.

You could also try buying some orthotics and seeing whether they help. I find the more rigid and more highly contoured Orthaheel and Birkenstock orthotics the most effective for me. You can't just put them in your shoes and bingo. You have to gradually increase your wear over a couple of weeks, and it can take a couple of months to really see an improvement.
