So seeing all the Coronavirus threads, info etc I'm now wondering if we should be getting in a few extra bits just in case, so what are you all stocking up on?

OP posts:

Good question.
Whenever I think about prepping my list goes;
tinned tomatoes
bog rolls
chick peas
Obviously that's not going far so what's missing?

ElderAve · 26/02/2020 20:24

I've been tonight. Lidl had no chickpeas!!

Rice, pasta, noodles. Tinned mushy peas, beans, soup, fish. Frozen fish and chicken for the freezer. Frozen veg. Toiletries and cleaning products. I'm thinking extra hygiene if the bug does hit. Batteries. Uht milk. Paracetamol and ibuprofen. Lemon juice and honey. Loo roll, Sanpro.

Wine!!!

My freezer and cupboards are stocked with enough to last three or four weeks, basics groceries so rice, pasta, lentils bread, wraps and rice crackers, frozen veg, stock, tinned tomatoes and fruit, frozen milk, butter, cheese meat/fish etc. I have batch cooked and frozen extra meals, soup and cake etc and have a stash of chocolate and crisps. Loo roll, catfood, washing liquid, medications, disinfectant too.

Oh and bread flour so we can make it if we can't buy it.

Fishcakey · 26/02/2020 20:28

Nothing. I'll worry about it IF it happens.

ElderAve · 26/02/2020 20:30

That's kind of the point. If it happens you'll be at the supermarket with everyone else fighting over the last tin of beans.

I don't really expect to need it but I haven't bought anything that won't get used.

Pipandmum · 26/02/2020 20:31

Not stocking up on anything but frankly I could eat out of my cupboard for about two weeks if need be (bit boring but no one would starve).

mathanxiety · 26/02/2020 20:42

TP
Vitamin supplement
Sanpro
Chicken for stock and meals
Have made and frozen lots of soup
Sports drink for hydration if we get sick
Tissues
Masks

mytypeonpaper · 26/02/2020 20:46

First brexit and now corona people jsut love to panic stock pile! And Lidi didn't have any chickpeas because everyone is panic bulk buying!

WellTidy · 26/02/2020 20:47

Store cupboard food - stock cubes, herbs and spices, oils, smash type dehydrated potato, rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes, soups, butter beans, chilli beans, condiments, breakfast condiments, bread flour, custard, rice pudding, jellies, treats, uht milk, squashes, juice, tea, coffee, drinking chocolate, popping corn, half baked baguettes, packets of pizza base mix, lime juice and lemon juice

Fridge things that last - butter, cheese, some cold meats, joint of ham, bacon, big pots of yoghurt

Freezer fully stocked with meats, fish, bread, bagels, wraps, hot cross buns, some fresh milk, ice cream and ice lollies, frozen desserts, frozen stewed fruit, home made pizza sauce, mozzarella balls and a cheesecake!

Toiletries and essentials - loo roll, dishwasher tablets, bin bags, rinse aid, salt, tampons, toothpaste, deodorant, hair washing stuff, soap etc

IceWings · 26/02/2020 20:50

Dried food - pasta, rice, porridge, biscuits, chocolate and a couple of tins of powdered milk.

Tinned food - beans, tomatoes, pulses, soup, veg, fruit, custard, pasta sauce, dog food and several cartons of long life orange juice. A couple of bottles of water in case of emergency.

DH has done a costco run - got almond milk (as nicer than UHT!), oven rolls, cereals, chick pea, juice, pasta, rice, pesto & generally sauces/pastes to make rice and pasta more interesting , tuna, tissues, peanut butter, cat food, frozen veg, tinned sweetcorn.

TBH, it's not masses in the scheme of things but it should at least fill in a gap if there's a one-off run on shops, or intermittent blips.

Echobelly · 26/02/2020 20:54

Fair comment on all sides @RunningAwaywiththeCircus! Grin

I was worried DH would think me nuts for thinking about it, but actually he was the first one to say it out loud!

Lordfrontpaw · 27/02/2020 07:40

Not really stocking up - but I can’t buy small bottles of hand gel in the shops for love nor money.

loveyoutothemoon · 27/02/2020 13:02

Where are you all from - Italy?!

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 27/02/2020 13:07

But if the shit hits the fan the virus will be around for months. Are you all just going to stay at home got weeks?!

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 27/02/2020 13:11

I have bought extra of what I normally buy anyway:

Dog food
Loo roll
Washing powder/cleaning stuff
Paracetamol and ibuprofen
Tinned toms
Beans
Cans of soup
Part baked bread
Waffles
Tea
Pasta
Onions

It’s all stuff we normally use a lot of anyway, so it won’t go to waste. Just a bit extra in case we need to quarantine ourselves

InOtterNews · 27/02/2020 13:13

M&S Mini Eggs Grin

cushioncovers · 27/02/2020 13:24

Nothing but then I already have two freezers and a cupboard fill of tins. But I'm sure some officials in special suits can throw some bread & tinned food over my garden wall if I'm quarantined 😂

tobee · 27/02/2020 13:28

I'm not panic stockpiling. I just buy the odd extra thing, now and then.

There are excellent prepper threads on here with detailed lists! Smile

PureAlchemy · 27/02/2020 13:52

I’ve been adding a few extra non-perishable food things to the basket over the last few weeks - things that my family already eat, like pasta & sauce, porridge oats and so on.

Specifically around the virus issue, I’ve bought extra paracetamol and ibuprofen, both adult and child versions, tissues, hand gel, soap, lemon juice and honey.

Incidentally, my local Tesco had hardly any adult ibuprofen left on the shelves yesterday.

Goodnightandgoodluck · 27/02/2020 13:56

Lidl frequently runs out of random stuff for a while, always has. Nothing to do with people stockpiling chick peas
