Anyone had Bowel adhesions ?

After months of pain at the top of my tum, I had a laperoscopy a month ago.They found I had Endometriosis which they want to cut away,not laser it, as less chance of it returning. Also, I have adhesions on the Bowel which I will have removed at the same time. They've told me I'll probably have to stay in over night. Could anyone who's had this op give me any info on recovery time and what to expect pain wise? Had an Ectoptic op 9 years ago - hoping I'm not going to feel as rough as I did after that.

I do have adhesions - but ont he uterus, probably caused mby my c section 5 years ago. It's taken this long to get it diagnosed as Asherman's Syndrome, and had my first lot of surgery last Friday. It was done under a general but as a day case and I came home that evening. I came home with pain killers, which I am still taking although it is improving. I have a sick note for 10 days to start with and hope to be okay after that.

Mine were from intestinal surgery as a baby. I suffered on and off with pain throughout childhood and teens and spent time in hospital. I had a really bad epsiode in my early 20's (20 years ago) and had a full laperotomy, removal of adhesions and had some ischaemic bowel removed. Mine was major 'open' stomach surgery and I took some time to recover fully having been in hossie for over two weeks. I would have recovered quicker without the ischaemic bowel bit though.

Are they hopeful of a keyhole removal? If so recovery time is much quicker but I don't have experience of that procedure. Hope you are pain free very soon.

I hope you're feelin ok right now.The pain for me feels as if I've had a punch to the stomach- that feeling you get after you've been winded.The surgeon left it to me to decide when I have the op. When I saw him following my Laperoscopy, I had a couple of holsbooked so he suggested I got those out of the way...Then I thought I'd wait tilmy children went back to school, now...No more excuses...I have to call him. The longer I leave it the worse my fears will get. I should do it today. I WILL do it today

Not very surprised unfortunately to read that the root cause of your problems is endometriosis. Same with the adhesions on the bowel; endo is likely responsible for that as well. Its called intestinal endometriosis.

Surgeons often use carbon dioxide has to get a better view of the organs. This travels upwards and a person can get bad pains in the shoulders post surgery. I found that painkillers took the edge off it but it was agony till it wore off. I was advised also to take two days off work.

You should have a follow up appointment ideally a week post op to discuss the operation and what was found at some length.
