Can babies cry themselves sick? Or is it chicken pox?

My 11mo DD is generally an all-round easy baby. Good sleeper, never sick, hardly ever cries. (I'm so lucky!)

Over the last few nights though, she has had broken sleep, waking on a fairly regular basis, crying. I put it down to teething as she has teeth visibly coming through which look sore.

But today she cried all day, not a usual cry imo, more like wailing! She was virtually unable to get her breath, and ended up throwing up about 10 times, projectile stylee. I found it really distressing

Could she make herself sick from all the crying?

Or could it be chicken pox, which I know she's been exposed to recently? There's no spots, but she is running a slightly high temp?

Any thoughts?

You have my sympathy - it is hideous when the lo's are ill.

Sounds to me like some sort of bug. I am sure that crying can cause sickness once but not 10 times. She is probably crying because she is in pain and not feeling very well.

If she has a temperature have you given her a bit of calpol?

Sometimes with my DSs the temperature is what is making them sick and it would make her feel rough too.

It could be chickenpox but you will know in a day or two and once the spots are out hopefully she will feel a bit better.

Hope she is feeling better soon.

Thanks Niecie, another sleepless night here!

Have dosed to the max on calpol but she's still crying a lot, but less sick thankfully

She's finally crashed out on the changing mat - I think I will go and join her.

Hi again,

Glad there is a bit of an improvement.

Should have said, if she isn't eating as well I would think about taking her to the doctors. It is easy to miss a sore throat or ear infection when they are babies and both can make the child sick, especially a sore throat. It happened to DS1 when he was 11 months - he was very sick one afternoon and got quite hot so we took he to the out of hours doctors as it was a Saturday and turned out he had an ear infection.

Hope the changing mat was comfy and you got a quick nap too. .
