First time nits and can't get the eggs - help!

DD has got nits for the first time, she has white blonde hair so it is easy to see the black/brown crawling lice. Then I can also see the eggs - teeny tiny black specs clinging on to the hair near the scalp - they are literally a spec! I treated her with some OTC stuff that came with a comb and then conditioned it all and combed out all the lice - fine - but I cannot for the life of me get all the eggs! So many of them but so tiny and hanging on so strong - I can't even get them most the time when I pull with my fingers all the way to the end. It's like the comb is way too big, it needs to be so much finer. It's metal. I've seen a few people recommend the nitty gritty comb but when I've googled it looks exactly the same as the comb that came with the treatment - far too big! Can anyone recommend anything else?

The eggs are really cemented on, and you can never be sure you can comb them all off.

Thuo is why you need to comb every other day for at least 17 days (to cover the full breeding cycle). If you get the hatchlings before they reach sexual maturity (3-4 days) you will end the infestation

No personal experience but the nitty gritty comb removes eggs apparently. I've seen them for sale in Boots and on Amazon

Yip Nitty Gritty comb is what you need. Around a tenner in tesco. Quite possibly the best £10 I've ever spent

Definitely the nitty gritty comb.

Sit child in bath with toys... wash and condition hair. Section hair off and comb through (with conditioner still on). With every comb, wipe it onto kitchen roll. Keep going until the comb is clear then move onto the next section.

Rinse off conditioner. And here’s the weird bit... rinse a handful of vinegar through the hair, rinse well again.

Repeat every 48 hours.

The nitty gritty comb really works... far better than any of the imitations.

Nitty gritty comb is different because it has grooves on the tong bits that get the eggs. Their shampoo and lotion is great too-eggs slide out and hair is conditioned as well (they use neem oil).

The advice I was given was to make sure the hilt of the comb scrapes along the hair and scalp as much as possible. If doing it in the bath make sure to rinse with a jug of water from the sink or with the shower, not the water that they are sitting in as the eggs can fall into the bath water and reattach to the hair if they make contact with it again.

Apparently vodka unsticks them. I had them a couple of years ago and while the eggs were empty (they were further down the hair shaft when I noticed them indicating they'd been there ages 😳) the pharmacist said to rinse with vodka. So I did. Otherwise you need to section off the hair and go through each section with your fingnails. Even the nitty gritty comb can miss some, though it is the best of the combs - can be a bit sore combing with it so be gentle!

I've heard vodka is suppose to help, I can't get rid of it.

Condition, nit comb the critters put every day for 2/3 weeks. Thereafter condition and nit comb at every wash. Very occasionally you will pick out a big fat louse that you know will have laid it's eggs all over. I'd like to call the louse a bastard louse but actually the little shit/bastard/lazy cow is the mother who just can't be bovvered. Never ever the child.

Hedrin ONCE (not any of the other ones) works by suffocating the eggs and lice. I used it once on my DD and none of the eggs hatched.

I then wet her hair, covered it in conditioner and taking very small sections at a time I combed from root to tip and wiped the excess on a tissue. You could see the tiny specs on the tissue. They were mostly behind her ears and the nape of her neck. I only did the comb/conditioner twice. We’ve got rid of them and they’ve never came back. Thankfully!

I used my fingernails, washed with nit shampoo, conditioned with heavy conditioner, blow dried and straightened. I was told the neat from the straighteners would kill them.

All of the above. Hedrin once, nitty gritty comb with tea tree conditioner and treat again after 7 days. Hair tied back in braids for school and straighteners help. They live behind ears and at nape in the main. Treat everyone. Not just the child you think is infested. Hot wash all bedding and any towels in use for peace of mind. We've been lucky since a bad infestation in YR with dc1 but I check them every week and still use tea tree conditioner for hair washing and checking.

If you use hedrin or nitwits, it kills the eggs.

The Hedrin leave in overnight lotion is good. It rinses out fine not greasy. Make sure you slosh it well over the hairline and around the ears.
In daylight if possible, at a window, sit the child down and go through each section of hair and pull an remaining eggs off the shafts with your fingernails. I found the transparent plastic combs better as you can see whats in the comb. The nitty gritty didn't pull anything off very fine hair. Wipe the comb on white tissue and check can you see any little black things moving. A pair of cheap reading glasses is good for this task.
Repeat after 3 days. .
You will know if new eggs are back because they are very close to the scalp. Older dead ones are further down the hairs.
