spotting/sometimes bleeding every day on mini pill

Hi

I am currently taking desogestrel mini pill and i am spotting every day, its brownish discharge and sometimes the occasional bleed. I have been taking it for 3 months now and prior to this, i have never taken any pill. Is this normal?

what is everyone elses experience on this?

I have not used the mini pill but have mirena instead. They both are based on the same principle though. They both supply a constant progestin to the body and since our body cycles are not meant to have progesterone all the time we get spotting / irregular periods. But soon (or rather months) the body gets used to it and the spotting stops, periods become lighter and in some cases stop altogether because the uterine lining either thins downs or atrophies. So yes , spotting is normal for the first few months but if your periods go towards the heavier side instead of becoming lighter or the spotting does not stop in next couple months then please visit your GP.

Also your body will get used to it sooner if you take it at the same time everyday.

I bled for 9months I was on it. Everyone kept saying it would settle but it was a long enough trial for me to know that my body didn't like it. Dr is now trying to persuade me to have the coil but I'm resisting as it's the same hormone and I'm certain it will be the same.
