Can anyone give me any advice please? I started yesterday afternoon with sudden bad stomach cramps and horrible really explosive diarrhea. I work with children and have rung GPs who advised have to stay away from work at least 48 hours. The diarrhea is so bad that it seems to be dribbling out even when I'm asleep and have had to wear pads Blush Really scared. They said a GP will ring me tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Scared I'm going to be incontinent! I'm 52 and usually in good health.

Sounds like a really nasty infection rather than a standard bug. GP should ask for a sample to be tested.

I will ask them to do that thanks. It started about 3 hours after had eaten a chicken dish in the canteen at school so wondered if it could be Salmonella poisoning.

Oh heck, that’s not good. Definitely mention that. Are you aware of anyone else falling ill?

Norovirus has hard to control diarrhoea. Two of my colleagues (nurses) had it once. One had an accident on their stairs rushing to the bathroom and the other actually pooed on his wife in bed. Pretty unpleasant but passes quickly. Hopefully it’s something like that. Hope you feel better soon.

That's too quick to be salmonella, the incubation period is longer. Sounds nasty though, hope you're feeling better soon.

I sympathise. Last month, OH and myself awoke with what I assume was norovirus. It started with projectile vomiting then diarrhoea. Mine cleared that day, but OH developed a pink rash all over, a fever of 38.5 despite regular ibuprofen/paracetamol. He was also incontinent of watery diarrhoea on the rug on the sofa and all along the hall as he ran to the toilet Shock. He was mortified! I'd thrown the rug in the wash and cleaned the hall (with gloves on and bleach) all before he even got off the toilet seat.

Have you been vomiting, or only diarrhoea? Any fevers? Any blood in the stool? Food poisoning could be from food a few days ago, not just the last meal!

Last year I had a strange episode of just diarrhoea which lasted a week! I felt fine otherwise, no vomiting, no fevers, just diarrhoea after almost ever meal. I avoided most dairy, oily/fatty foods, following the BLAND diet and included kefir and sauerkrat in an attempt to add good bacteria back into my gut.

Generally a sinister cause wouldn't start so suddenly, but the Dr might recommend a scope to check for polyps etc unless a indicative food poisoning cause was found . Depending which country you are in, majority recommend a scope from age 50 onwards anyway. keep us updated with how you get on, and hope you feel better soon x

Thanks for the replies, glad to hear that it's not just me. No other symptoms other than the diarrhea itself and stomach pains, l was mortified that I'd actually pooed my bed last night Blush
