Child with fatigue

Hi

My child (8) has been struggling for a while with fatigue. It's effecting all aspects of their life including school.

GP ran some tests and all came back normal. I've had a look online at the actual results and the FT4 level is only 9 pmol/l. This seems too low to me but apparently it's normal with a TSH of 1.85. All other results were well within normal.

I have got medical insurance so I wonder if I should use that and push for more tests. My child is struggling so much. Their tiredness is all day from when they wake up. Sleeping does not help.

Any advice is very welcome.

Did your GP did any test for vitamins, vitamin b or vitamin d deficiency can cause fatigue and so can iron deficiency. If fatigue is fairly recent like a month old then may be it is an after effect of flu. Is she sleeping alright. If she has disturbed sleep then she would be tired in the day. In most cases it is vitamin d specially in the winter months. Also NHS will say that vitamin d is normal for anything above 25 but levels like 30-33 are also not good.
You can go private if you like but generally if you are insistent your GP will do more tests.

Thanks Ahran2k yes the gp checked b12 and folate, both high normal. No vitamin d result so I will ask for that. The tiredness has been going on for at least a year but we weren't taken seriously until school wrote a letter.
