Crohns disease - new symptoms or different issue?

lulumama · 01/09/2007 14:21

Have had crohns for best part of 15 years....on the whole it is under control. had one minor flare up in June that was quickly resolved with meds, and stopped taking them.

last few days , i feel very sick, bloated, tummy feels tender....but not the same pain as i get with crohns. also have had really bad heartburn on and off, which is unusual for me.

am off my food , which never happens... trying to eat, couldn;t eat brekky, have just eaten, and feel sick and quite, well, bleaurgh !

also tenderness is much higher in my gut

i will go to the docs on monday..but wondered in the mean time if anyone else has these symptoms as part of IBD..or knows about it?

or just some sympathy .

sympathy !!!!

Lulumama sorry to hear this. Dh has Crohns (I'm sure we have chatted about this before and thanks for your email!)
Have you a IBD nurse you can go to as your first port of call?
It could be a flare but just feeling different. The doctor told Dh that they can take many forms ...
could it be consipation? this can be a problem for DH and make him feel bloaty

lulumama · 01/09/2007 15:06

thanks puffy

yes, i do remember now peachy ..... i don;t have a nurse, i do remember vaguely getting some stuff from her when i was first diagnosed, but that was 4 years ago, so goodness knows where it is now... i have no idea how to get in touch with her now.

also, everything is regular !! so maybe this is just another manifestation ..

will get to docs on monday

Ahh yes, the lost phone number. We have done that several times or had several hospital numbers written down and not known who they belong to.
Are you under a consultant? could you ring the secretary?
Hope it will be OK

lulumama · 01/09/2007 15:12

thanks

i do have a consultant, but he is private.. i am due for a colonoscopy ( and a smear...oh the joy!!) . maybe my doc will know how to get hold of the IBD nurse

Sorry to hear of your tummy troubles, lulu.

I get IBD and also suffer from heartburn too so have to be careful with my diet. I get flare ups when I'm particularly anxious or stressed. The onset can be insidious and before I know it I suffer full-on symptoms. Very unpleasant. Sometimes I just get IBD, other times just heartburn. It seems in my case they are closely linked.

Perhaps you have a touch of gastritis. Have you tried over-the-counter stuff, like gaviscon, to ease the heartburn?

Worth getting it checked out with GP.

hi lulu I have had crohn's for 18 years, I always get pain in the same place, ie low down - myu crohns is at the join of my small and large intestine and has never manisfested itself elsewhere.

Couldy ou have food poisoning or a tummy bug?

lulumama · 02/09/2007 10:25

thanks for the messages

i have taken gaviscon, that helps. just concerned at new symptoms after so long.

don;t think i am poisoned - not severe enough, IFYSWIM, and no temp. or other symptoms of a bug....

Hi lulumama

Have you taken any medication containing aspirin or Ibuprofen?

That may have contributed to the heartburn.

RubySlippers · 02/09/2007 12:19

Lulu
much sympathy
what have you eaten/drunk that may have made it flare up?
oh it is awful when you feel rubbish
do you need your medication adjusted???
hugs hun

Crohns can affect from the mouth to the other end and anywhere in between.
It could be a different area becoming inflamed or you may just have a hiatus hernia or gastritis which is not related to CD.
Carry on with the gaviscon, but definitely check things out with your GP.

lulumama · 02/09/2007 12:43

thanks

i have taken the odd ibuprofen as i fell over in the airport on the way back from hols and really hurt my knee but the heartburn was before then

i guess if i am really lucky, i will get a gastroscopy to go with my colonoscopy

not eaten anything out of the ordinary, in fact, being nauseous making me eat less!

gastritis is very painful
i have had it and had to take lanzoprasol for a while

also, i have bad heartburn - when i was being prodded and poked last week at the hospital i went through the roof when they poked my tummy and they sent me home with antacids as well as clexane

lulumama · 02/09/2007 14:26
