Fungal nail treatment

DH has a grotty thumbnail (also some on his toenails). It's obviously a fungal infection.

He's tried the paint on treaments but they didn't work.

Was at the GP this morning for something else and asked about the oral medication to get rid of this. GP said they don't prescribe it any more as it's classed as a cosmetic problem ?

So I know he needs Terinafine/Lamisil? Any ideas where to get this from? Online pharmacies?

I went to a chiropodist and she has drilled tiny holes in my toenail...called Lacuna method. I have to spray Lanisil into the holes daily for 20 weeks. See her every 6 weeks for a review ... I've bought more Lanisil from Amazon

Ouch! I guess it helps to get the spray to penetrate further in.

His main issue is the one on his thumb - so can't see a chiropodist for that ?

This is a bit odd but I had a thumbnail like this and after a bit of googling (I don't like going to the doctor) managed to get rid of it by liberally applying Morrisons own brand vapo rub (like Vick's) to it every night before bed. It took a few months I think (you need the whole nail to grow out) but painless, cheap and easy so might be worth a go!

Didnt hurt at all! I originally was going to have the nail removed...now that would have been bad! I'd ring a chiropodist...not all of them do this procedure

I've heard of that one hamster . I know DH tried rubbing tea tree oil in but nothing happened. I don't think it helped that I had to nag remind him to do it every day.

I like the smell of Vicks though - maybe I'll suggest that one.

Please don't buy the antifungal tablets online - they can cause liver problems & baseline blood tests can be needed before starting treatment

I have found an online pharmacy where we can buy it.

£48 for one month supply. It takes about 3 months I believe.
