Tickly cough - need sleep tonight?

I have had a cough since I got a cold on New Year's Day. It was getting better but since yesterday is worse again. I really want to sleep tonight but have no night nurse just covonia night time which was no help last night . I'm sleeping upright in lots of pillows.
Any clue how I get rid of this at least at night to get some sleep

Onion poultice!
I have saved so many sleepless nights with this.

Cut an onion into rings
Wrap it up in a tea towel/ muslin and put it in a low temp oven for c about 15 mins.
Remove it and put it on your chest under a tight fitting T-shirt .

You will slowly like a kebab in the morning, but you will have slept!

Get well soon

Smell not slowly

Try a big spoonful of honey. Can sometimes kind of coat your throat and stop the tickle.

Vicks on the soles of your feet with socks over the top. Really works!

Lemon juice and honey in hot water is more effective than shop bought cough mixtures for a tickly, annoying cough. I've read and been involved in multiple research study papers about it.

Ive heard great things about this natural cough remedy.
Apparently turmeric is a great anti inflammatory and the honey is very soothing.

Thanks I will make the tea.

I have drank so much lemon and honey for weeks now but will continue

Hot squash proven to be as effective as anything.

Spainintherain · 26/01/2020 22:45

Really ? never heard that! I might try that as last night was awful

I really didn't believe the Vicks on the feet thing but it worked for me.

Wrap a scarf fairly snuggly around your neck, mouth and nose. As you breath through it, it warms and moistens the air so is less likely to irritate your throat.

Hope you got some sleep OP! My DH needed asthma meds after a 3-week dry cough (he doesn't have asthma but had reduced breath sounds on one side). So it's worth a doctor appointment if you're worried and it's not getting better. I think Covonia is the best cough medicine so can't think of anything better! Codeine is a cough suppressant if you have any, though it gives me a dry mouth and throat so never worked for me!

I was very slow writing and missed your update - sorry you had another bad night.

I'm still coughing and think I might ask about an inhaler!
