DH has sleep apnoea - any advice?

My DH has just got a diagnosis of sleep apnoea - apparently he has a severe case and has probably had it 5-10 years. The oximeter (?) test showed very disrupted sleep and that he was stopping breathing over 60 times an hour. Shock He has an appt to have a sleep mask fitted. We are both overweight so will embark on a diet. He is a non-driver so no issues there. Anything else that may help? Just so worried and anxious.

Wow that is very severe. The CPAP can be tricky to get used to ( for both of you!) losing weight could definitely help but he should use the CPAP whilst he is trying

Try different masks. Dh didnt get on with the first one but is fine with the 2nd one. It can cause a dry mouth so dh uses Xylimelts which help. It has stopped him snoring which is great for me as well as him

Thank you for the replies. First night using the mask last night. All feels a bit strange. He woke with a bit of headache and a dry mouth. Hopefully we will get both used to it.

I've had a CPAP for years. I still get headaches but they wear off really quickly. After a few years I no longer get apnoea attacks . I also find it really hard to get to sleep without my mask. I use the breathing to help me relax before sleep. Just wait until you see the changes a food night sleep had on your DH.🤓
