Cough for 2 months

I've had a cough since the end of November, it's like a dry cough which is worse at night and in the morning. I feel fine in myself but the cough is just annoying and my family are starting to get annoyed at me now about my constant coughing every two minutes.

I feel a bit stupid going to see the GP about a cough but I'm thinking maybe I should get it checked out since I've had it for 2 months now. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it worth getting it checked out or should I just leave it go on it's own? And if anybody has had a cough for this long and saw a GP about it, what did they say?

Yes get it checked by GP. It’s probably a lingering benign cough but could be something more serious so best to get it checked out.

I did and the doctor told me I had the remains of what had been a chest infection but it was 80% gone. He gave me antibiotics for the last bit to clear it up and once that was finished I stopped coughing within about two weeks. He told me the cough can linger after the infection for a while.

Thanks both for the replies! I think I will go to get it checked out just to put my mind at ease
