So fed up - rhinosinusitis

I've had many years of problems with left ear, sinuses, adenoids, tonsils - had grommet twice (last time about 6yrs ago), adenoids our as a kid, tonsils out about 10 yrs ago. Ive been on steroid nasal sprays for years. Had countless sinus & ear infections.

3 months ago I started sneezing, non-stop blowing my nose, sinus pain. Saw GP last week - doesn't think any infection, so increased steroids. Had 2 days of relief, then back to the same again. I'm worried the sneezing is due to allergies & maybe from the dogs(?).

I'm so sick of it. Today I've got such bad sinus pain & earache. Blowing my nose & the mucous is really thick & (TMI) dark yellow.

Got referral to ENT again, but not til May. I'm doing nasal rinses too.

Anyone got any tips or been through this?

Neilmed sinus rinse and Avamys may help.

Using the Neilmed & they switched me to Flixonase drops from Avamys as they're stronger. Still nothing.

Are you taking an antihistamine?

Try fenofexadine or certirizine daily?

And Neilmed twice a day

Sympathies can you accelerate the ENT consultation by going private?

I take cetirizine. I've been doing the Neilmed morning & night. And do a Sterimar spray one in between.

I can't afford to go private. Wish I could.

Oh, I also use a CPAP machine at night & I wake up in the night with my nose burning & so sore. But I have to use it to sleep.

Sympathies.

Only other suggestions - steaming twice a day (2 minutes with your head under a towel over a bowl of freshly boiled water).

A private consultation would be around £250.

Have they X-rayed/MRIed your sinuses?

I wonder whether regular exercise (e.g. jogging outdoors) might just be helpful too, if you have the energy? At the very least it might boost your immune system.

Turmeric is good for reducing inflammation - pills from the health-food shop might be worth a try.

If you are overweight getting your weight down might mean you are less likely to need your CPAP at night?

Haven't tried steam for a while - good reminder. I'm not working at the moment, so private not a possibility. They've done ct scans, but not recently. My ENT doc does endoscope when I see her & can see it's always inflamed.

Walk outside with dogs (can't run, osteoarthritis). Do need to get weight down, but had sleep apnoea even when at decent weight. But it will help. Struggling with that!!

I sleep with a Vicks steam on all night and it makes a massive difference (nothing gets crusty and it seems to reduce the swelling).

Unfortunately my steamer has been discontinued - I think the issue is that steam promotes mould formation and many people with our issues have an allergic response to mould.

Ditto for turmeric, and one other thing to note is that it absorbs better in a hydro-soluble supplement form.
