Ear infection.... so painful

StripyTShirt · 19/01/2020 21:07

Tried everything, ibuprofen, paracetamol, codeine, hot water bottle and a bloody onion!! Nothing works, I'm in agony and on my own with DS!

Any suggestions? I'll try anything I'm so desperate!Sad

Have you got anti biotics ?

OntheWaves40 · 19/01/2020 21:15

The only thing that gave me a little relief was hot water bottle. There is nothing worse than ear ache. I’d rather go through child birth again than deal with ear ache.

StripyTShirt · 19/01/2020 21:15

No GP said it's viral.

Nasal spray, antihistamine and Sudafed have all helped me in the past. Ear pain is the absolute worst.

Bluerussian · 19/01/2020 21:21

How does your GP know the infection is viral? It could be bacterial and sometimes a viral infection becomes bacterial. It just doesn't sound right to me. Go back and see GP urgently tomorrow and demand antibiotics.

Solpadeine Max/Syndol very good for pain but you may have already tried them.

aNonnyMouse1511 · 19/01/2020 21:22

The pharmacy can give you drops over the counter but if it’s bacterial it won’t help. I’m surprised you haven’t been given antibiotics tbh.

slipperywhensparticus · 19/01/2020 21:30

Antihistamine might help a bit is it tickling yet? The unbearable itch was a sign of it getting better if I remember right

You may have to do it all at once ie heat medication maybe ear drops......(maybe not I cant remember if its warm oil to soothe it or avoid warm oil)

boogiebogie · 19/01/2020 21:50

Salt in sock.. Pop on ear... Hot water bot on top x

StripyTShirt · 19/01/2020 22:06

Thanks for the suggestions.

GP said he thought it was viral as had come off the back of a nasty cold but did say go back if not improved after 3 days. That was Friday and has got worse, pain and loss of hearing so will go back tomorrow morning.

Off to try the sock suggestion Grin

I get these a lot.

Only thing I can suggest is as others have said, sudafed and paracetamol. I take codiene/ paracetamol soluble when it's about to "pop" as the pain is horrific!

Hottie on ear and , if you can, angle it down to the neck as the sinus may be blocked which puts pressure on the ear.

Also... try hot as you can bare flannel on your nose, again might help ease the pressure on the ear canal. Also gentle rubbing under the ear and top of nose may help as well.

Hope it eases up, it's a horrible thing to have hugs

Comefromaway · 19/01/2020 22:16

Ear infections are the worst somewhere on here is a middle of the night thread from me when I was trying to distract myself. I alternated paracetamol and ibuprofen every 2 hours.

Definately go back to the dr. Mine ended up really bad and my ear drum burst.

Icanflyhigh · 19/01/2020 23:53

Nothing else to add but a gentle hug. I suffer terribly with my ears and have had grommets for a while - until they came this year. Touch wood, no infection this winter yet, but I'm not looking forward to it. Earache and toothache are the worst pains, and the only pains that make me cry like a baby.

Cupcakegirl13 · 20/01/2020 06:52

I definitely think you need to go back if it’s worse and ask for anti b’s. I find the drops are much more affective than oral.

danny1712 · 20/01/2020 10:21

The same has happened to me ear infection with burst ear drum and the antibiotics I have been given make you feel worse then the ear infection does!! Have you been given anything for it yet?
