I've had problems with numbness in my feet over the last few weeks, which over the last 2 days has spread to my bum & thighs. Rang 111 for advice & got referred to A & E, somebody mentioned Caudia Equina Syndrome. I'm terrified of hospitals & just want to go home. I'm autistic & it doesn't help.

Speak to the hospital. I have had to go in a few times and mentioned how scared I was (I am also autistic) they made sure that I could wait in a quieter space.

I still had to wait the same amount of time as everyone else however I got to do it in a small side room which made it a lot easier for me. They tend to be very good in my local hospital.

Try not to panic. Cauda equina is rare and, probably, a worse case scenario. At least you are in a good place to get sorted

ClientListQueen · 10/01/2020 20:37

Have you had any back pain? I had cauda equina, I know it's hard but try not to worry, they have to check for everything including the worst case

do you take any regular vitamin supplements, OP? Some of them can cause nerve weirdness. So can mild food allergies and even anxiety itself.

SeagullOnTheWind · 10/01/2020 20:51

Hi, I try and tell someone about my SEN and that I have overwhelming feelings/ responses to that sort of situation. They're usually wonderful. I hope you're OK.

Nat6999 · 10/01/2020 21:45

Been referred to GP out of hours unit now.

Does that mean a GP unit attached to A&E or you go home & wait for GP to contact you?

Nat6999 · 10/01/2020 22:06

GP unit at hospital.

so you'll still get seen tonite, which sounds good.
Hopefully GPs are kind, will take a holistic view of your situation.
Let us know what they say?

That’s good. Means it’s not urgent xx

Hadtoask · 10/01/2020 22:43

Have you seen the doctor yet? I hope you’re feeling better.

Nat6999 · 10/01/2020 23:42

I'm home, the doctor checked my reflexes & neuro checks on legs & feet which are normal. I've got to get an appointment at my doctors on monday to sort some investigations if needed.

Thanks for update. Bodies are weird things.

FenellaMaxwell · 11/01/2020 08:07

Have you fallen on your coccyx recently?

Nat6999 · 11/01/2020 11:59

No I haven't, I had a bad fall on it 4 years ago, was taking my shoes off stood up & fell landing on my bum. It took almost 3 years to stop hurting.

The doctor rolled his eyes when I said 111 had sent me to A & E, I've been sent before with ds & it's been the same reaction.
