Flucloxacillin

DH is taking this to try and heal a wound on his head following surgery. Most of the wound had healed but there is a little bit which following a swab has shown infection.. He's on Flucloxacillin, was started on 500 mgs but was told to double it by the neurosurgeon. He's 10 days into a 14 day course but I noticed today he has a rash on his back, front and down his arms. He only mentioned it today and its the first time I've seen it. He thinks he may have had it for two or three days but never thought to mention it!

Hopefully getting a call back from the surgery but just wondered if anyone else had problems with Flucloxacillin. We've stopped it for now. TBH I don't think its cured the problem but know you are supposed to complete the course. Thanks for reading.

You will need some other antibiotics to complete the course otherwise bugs can get riesistance. If you're waiting to hear back from GP then wait to hear what they say.

I had a rash last time I took penicillin - assumed it was a heat rash or something until I mentioned it to my GP who said it was probably an allergy to the antibiotics.

Can't remember being told to stop taking them so think I'd finished the course by then?

Allergy! I developed mine half way through my second two week course, assumed it was my increase in gabapentin from the day before... it was not! Sat in addenbrookes waiting to see my consultant blowing up 😅

But yeah don’t take any more and tell the dr so they can decide.

I was on a lower dose for 14 days so my side effects were minor, I did develop some type of oral thrush. Which is normal, I know, but still unpleasant.
