Sinus headache length?

I think I’ve had sinusitis. Started with a headache across the top of my head and my temples which painkillers didn’t touch. Then my whole face hurt and my ears were blocked, felt sick and dizzy.

Been a couple of weeks now and everything is much better except the headache.

Same deal - throbbing temples and a sensitive scalp. Is this related to the sinuses or could it be a different kind of headache? How long should I leave it before seeing the doctor? Just don’t want to miss anything that could potentially be serious and google is no help with my headache symptoms! Keeps going on about swollen arteries.

Thanks!

I have just contacted my GP about the exact same thing. Mine started 19th December, severe headaches on and off over hols and now in teeth ear and cheek, hurts when I move head and doesn't respond to pain killers

I have had it in the past so know my symptoms. But I'd go now if I were you. I was surprised when a dr diagnosed it first time as had no obvious cold symptoms and he said I can just be headache. and usually around the two week mark they will see you and some docs will give antibiotics, some might it's a virus and wait 6 weeks.

Hope you feel better soon

ah thank you @blazerbranch I haven’t had a cold either, weird huh! I knew it was my sinuses by the fact my whole face hurt. the headache is rather disconcerting though! Didn’t know it could cause pain like that! X

Sounds similar to what I've had. Had ear pain for 4 days and then the sinus headache started. Went to GP who prescribed ABs but they didn't work so now I'm doing saline nasal rinse twice a day and a steroid nasal spray. Finally today the headache has eased a little, it's been 4.5 weeks all in all, Christmas was a bit miserable as, like you, painkillers didn't do a lot! I'm hoping after a few weeks of treatment it should be sorted. I would go to GP as it's been a couple of weeks, see what they suggest.

Another who has been to the gp today for similar but mostly the dizziness element which has been bad for 2 weeks plus now. Virus and I'm to expect another 2-3 weeks of it - what joy

Oh yuck! I hope it doesn’t last that long @Fredy45

I went to the GP this morning. She felt my sinuses and they seem ok now. My scalp is really sore though, brushing my hair hurts and stroking my hair hurts too! It used to feel nice! She found some sore points in my neck so was kind of satisfied with that? Just said there’s nothing they can do. The headache is wearing me down, I’m not gonna lie. It’s constant and all over. 15 days and counting!

Back of my head on waking this morning then travelled forward to my forehead. I’m on the brink of getting a private MRI, I’ve never had anything like this before. Shattered too, want to go to bed at 7pm every night. The pain is so wearing.

Just as a thought can you turn your head from side to side easily? A few years I had awful headaches on the top and back of my head and it turned out they were caused by tension in my neck. GP made me try and turn my head over my shoulder and it turned out I could only get it a tiny bit round!

Physio helped hugely but even just gentle turning of the head made a difference

aNonnyMouse1511 · 07/01/2020 20:58

@Fredy45 I can, GP checked it earlier. She did find some painful areas at the back of my neck on the left side though and said that could be causing the scalp pain. Made hubby give me a massage this evening x

@aNonnyMouse1511 I know this was ages ago, but did the scalp pain go? I’ve always suffered from blocked sinuses but this time the pain is at the back of my head too and the scalp is tingly and painful! And how long did it take? I feel like getting a private mri but they’re so expensive!

DominaShantotto · 16/11/2020 20:51

Usually when I get a sinus infection it's in for the fucking duration of most of the winter. GP now knows and takes pity on me and pointed me in the direction of the nose spray other people have mentioned which shifts it. Otherwise I feel like my face is falling off until about April.

Mehripoop · 17/11/2020 07:45

@DominaShantotto I’ve always had sinus issues but very mild. I think somethings changed this year and it’s my whole head! Think I need to ask for the spray too
