Scared that my DP's cancer has returned :((

He had male breast cancer (stage 3) 5 years ago and had a mastectomy of the infected area and went into remission since. This last week the scar where he had the mastectomy has been causing him a lot of pain. Today, he went to the Gp who found a pea size lump behind the scar Sad

I'm so worried. We've got a 2 week old baby girl. The thing that worries me most is that he wouldn't have chemo last time because he thought it would make him worse.

The only hope we have is that it could be an infection. I'm afraid he will shut me out if it's cancer. Anyone have any experience of this?

No experience but didn't want your post to go unanswered. Sorry you have this to worry about

It's such a shock. I just don't know what to do for the best as he has the same symptoms that he had last time he was ill. So it doesn't look good.

Ah so sorry to hear this.

I’ve had breast cancer and a double mastectomy and had quite a few infections following that. Pain normally indicates an infection and he is doing the right thing getting it checked out.

It’s awful going having to go through scans etc again. I’ve had many a scare and it doesn’t get easier. I feel for you.

I do remember reading a book from a cancer survivor and she said it’s common to have many scares, lumps, pain etc and go have to keep going back and getting it checked out. It’s so hard though.

Thank you @Delatron I really hope it isn't anything harmful but of course I'm very worried. At least he has gone to the doctor. He was going to leave it to see if the pain got better but he couldn't feel any lump - the doctor found this.

Try the tamoxifen thread. They were very supportive when I had various scares. Good luck.

Thank you @lilgreen

Thanks for your replies. He's had a scan and it does not appear to be cancer thank goodness. It would be an understatement to say I'm very relieved.
