Bowel issues

I have been suffering with undiagnosed bowel issues for the last 2 years.

I suffer with abdominal pain, mainly on the left-hand side around my belly button. I have anywhere from 6(on a goodish day)-10+ bowel movements, all of which contain mucus and sometimes blood. I also vomit on a regular basis, and this combined with the increased bowel movements means that I have lost 6 stone and I'm extremely underweight.

I have had numerous tests- 2 colonoscopies, 2 small bowel MRIs, a capsule endoscopy and a gastroscopy. None of these tests showed anything apart from the gastroscopy which showed that I have a small hiatus hernia and gastritis, H Pylori neg. One faecal calprotectin test came back as over 2000, rest were normal. I have a B12 and folate deficiency also.

I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and managed to find the cause of their issues, I am starting to lose hope :(

Have you been tested for any food allergies?
I had similar issues and it turned out I have coeliac disease. I now only have issues when I have cross contaminated food.

Have you been tested for autoimmune conditions like Addison’s disease? Diabetes?

missyB1 · 30/12/2019 07:59

are you under a Consultant? Which speciality?

Have you been tested for Crohns or Colitis? That's the usual cause of what you describe. Or Coeliac ?

I am under a gastro consultant. I tested negative for coeliac disease. All of the tests I mentioned in the OP were for crohns/colitis but all came back normal except one high faecal calprotectin.

Yeah but the faecal calprotectin test and CRP don't give a diagnosis on their own. Your symptoms are identical to my Crohn's-colitis, although admittedly less vomiting. You might need to do some nagging. Could be micro-colitis, or an allergy that hasn't been deduced yet. Someone needs to be doing something for you, OP. You can't live like that; get shirty!
