What , if anything do I need to do about this ? It is on the fleshy bit of my bottom and is very red and sore and I can feel it under the skin as bigger than it actually looks . It feels painful when I turnover in bed .
Is this something that needs lancing ? Or antibiotics
I am unlikely to get to a doc u TIL thur or do I need to go to the walk-in ?

please go to walk-in or A&E asap.
that needs investigating.
though rare, severe infections can develop quickly and become threatening.
ring 111 now for advice.
please let us know how you get on.
good luck.

I get those on my legs occasionally after shaving.

I just get them wet in a warm shower and then it's pretty easy to squeeze the pus out myself - it then heals over in a couple of days.

If it spreads and gets bigger, then maybe seek medical attention, but for a small slightly infected spot I really wouldn't be wanting to take up a GP appointment or to contribute to the antibiotics overuse crisis.

PrittSticky · 28/12/2019 22:56

It's difficult to tell from the picture how big it is. Is the yellow bit the same size as say, the end of a pencil?

ViaSacra · 28/12/2019 22:59

What size is it? Hard to tell from the picture. The darker red area - is it the same size as a 5p coin? 10p? Or bigger?

Pajamagirl · 28/12/2019 23:01

The yellow bit is about as big as the non pointy end of a pencil

I will go to walk in tomorrow am

I can't believe someone is suggesting A and E. Personally, I would try and remove the pus myself, put some antiseptic on, and then keep it clean and under a plaster.

If it spreads, or you begin to feel unwell, then by all means seek medical attention through your GP or a walk-in centre, but A and E right now would be completely inappropriate.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/12/2019 23:07

You don't need an appt for that before trying obvious remedies at home first.

Sit in a hot salt bath for as long as you can.

Bathe with hot as you can stand salt water ,keep compress on it ...and repeat.

Apply Savlon and cover using a non lint dressing, like you do with burns.

If you feel ill or temperature then obviously seek help.

A and E? Dear God, absolutely not.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/12/2019 23:08

Sit in a bath and that'll drain in no time.

Pajamagirl · 28/12/2019 23:11

There is no head , and nothing to pop if u know what I mean
I will see how it goes and decide tomorrow
( never thought I’d be photographing my bum to show on the internet 😊
Thanks for your replies

There will be a head in no time if you sit in a bath and start with hot compresses etc.

Pajamagirl · 28/12/2019 23:16

Thanks mrs p , will try that now

draw a line around the red part and also around the furthest pinkish part and make a note of time you did that.
are you alone or can you get someone to help you.
people who are dismissing it have probably never seen severe cellulitis, NF, sepsis and other life threatening skin infections close up.
they are rare, but I would not delay checking out exactly what that is.

VirginiaCreeper · 29/12/2019 13:33

That does not need A&E unless you are immunosuppressed.
I second all the advice about hot compresses - an old fashioned remedy is a drawing poultice.
Sudocreme is very good for boils or infected spots. If the redness spreads see a nurse practitioner at your GP surgery.

Pajamagirl · 29/12/2019 14:01

I tried compress and hot bath
Currently at local walk in

How did you get on?

Pajamagirl · 29/12/2019 17:14

Antibiotics , they couldn’t pop it .
Said I should have come in earlier and if I start to feel ill or it tracks then to a and e .
Thanks to all who replied
