Molar tooth extraction

On Sunday night I had a molar removed (had a root canal filling in it 15 years ago). There was an abscess under it so it was removed by out of hours dentist. The wound wasn't stitched and left open. I have been rinsing with salt water after every meal and following all other advice but I am in so much pain still. Is this normal, or should I go back to dentist tomorrow?

I'd ring your regular dentist for advice.

You may have a dry socket, so ring your regular dentist first thing tomorrow morning.
All extraction sites are open wounds btw, they don't heal by primary intention like other surgical wounds .....even when suturing is required, the extraction site is still open.

@katielilly you were right! Just saw the dentist and it is dry socket. Have had it packed, so fingers crossed it starts to improve. Thank you.
