Feel like lump constantly in throat

Merry Christmas Eve!
For the past couple of weeks I’ve had the sensation of having a lump down my throat.
It disappears over night for in the morning and arrives back by about 10am.
I’ve tried the usual Rennie etc thinking it was heartburn but it’s made little difference.
My throat isn’t sore, and I don’t feel unwell otherwise.
Some days it’s worse than others and I have indigestion and frequent hiccups too.
Diet largely the same and food/ alcohol doesn’t seem to effect it either way.
It’s really bad tonight and I feel extremely uncomfortable. Any ideas?!

I had this. It was silent reflux.

BrokenBrit · 24/12/2019 21:16

@ginfordinner, did any remedies help? Has it gone now?

I had this with a thyroid problem. I had a module on my thyroid but also at the same time.i was diagnosed with Silent Reflux. Normal.rennie etc made no difference.
Im now on long term Omeprazole and prescribed Gaviscon Advance.
I rarely get a problem now butnoccassionally the lump sensation comes back.
See GP it could be a number of things but silent reflux can only be properly diagnosed with the camera down by an ENT expert. Whilst unpleasant takes less than 30 seconds and is not painful.
Lump on throat can also be associated with stress and anxiety. How's your mental.health and well being??

HappyHammy · 24/12/2019 21:18

Hiatus hernia reflux

Ginfordinner · 24/12/2019 21:18

Yes. Omeprazole. All ok now.

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 24/12/2019 21:20

I’ve had this six months and finally went to the GP. She couldn’t see anything but has sent me to the ENT department of my local hospital.

BrokenBrit · 24/12/2019 21:23

Thanks all. I was considering something along the lines of heartburn/ reflux, but with it being daily and with the Rennies not helping I wasn’t sure.
Good to know treatment seems to cure it easily enough.
I hate going to the GPs, but will do if it persists.
@ShristmasChopper - it’s been a stressful time that’s for sure but I think I’ve been coping reasonably well. Maybe my throat feels differently!

@Sharonthetotallyinsane - I hope you get to the bottom of it too. It may not be serious but it is really annoying and uncomfortable isn’t it!

I have this symptom when my anxiety is particularly bad!

moolady1977 · 24/12/2019 21:27

I had this lump sensation went to doctor's got referred to hospital was told silent reflux but I also had hoarseness too

MustardScreams · 24/12/2019 21:27

I had this! Mine was silent reflux also.

I had naproxen/esomeprazole for Morton’s Neuroma and the lump disappeared at the same time. When I met my consultant for my follow up he confined the throat lump is common with reflux.

AnnaMagnani · 24/12/2019 21:35

Are you anxious in anyway? I used to get this when my anxiety was bad. It was called globus and was just an anxiety generated feeling of having a lump in my throat.

A mix of knowing what it was, and dealing with the anxiety, and I don't get it any more.

BrokenBrit · 24/12/2019 21:36

Interesting it may be anxiety manifesting physically. I’ve just googled and discovered you can get Omeprazole over the counter! So hopefully I can pop to a pharmacy in a couple of days and try that. In the mean time will try not to binge over Xmas and see if that reduces it at all!
Thanks for being so helpful.

Silent reflux can be caused by coeliac disease, sp it's worth getting it ruled out.

Timberoo · 25/12/2019 02:02

I had this and my GP took a look at my throat and said Timberoo, it's pure stress - your throat is fine. Once I knew that, it went away...

Perid0t · 25/12/2019 10:39

Silent reflux caused this in me.

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 25/12/2019 11:53

I’ll report back once I’ve seen the specialist.

Marmite27 · 25/12/2019 11:55

Round these parts (Leeds) our variation of the virus of the year came with a lump in the throat.

TiffanyTrot · 26/12/2019 00:09

It's probably globus

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 06/01/2020 11:51

Update. Saw the ENT doctor and he diagnosed acid reflux so I’m on ometzaprole.

boredwithfootball · 21/01/2020 20:24

I have just found this post / I have exactly the same thing. Has anyone had any more answers? Any other treatment I can try?

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 21/01/2020 20:25

Mine was silent reflux from putting on weight on my upper stomach, drinking white wine and coffee.

thistimelastweek · 21/01/2020 20:26

Like others have said, sounds like gloves sensation.

thistimelastweek · 21/01/2020 20:27

Sorry, globus sensation.

NoSauce · 22/01/2020 11:22

Reflux can cause this as well as anxiety.
