Can I stop a cold from developing?

Clutching at straws I know. I have a dry throat and a tickly feeling in my nose which feels like the start of a cold. DS is in hospital very poorly and will be there for at least another 10 days. If I get a cold I can't visit and I would be gutted to not be able to see him on Christmas Day.

I am already taking Echinacea and vitamin c, any words of wisdom or suggestions as to how I might try to stop this cold developing? I know this may be futile but I am willing to try anything!

Can you get to a chemist for some first defence spray?

Otherwise early night, drink lots of water

I've used the vicks first defence spray before when I've felt a cold coming on and then not taken the cold, can't say for sure if that's what's helped but it's worth a try. I hope your little boy is feeling better soon, I'm sure it must be a very tough time x

Echinacea tincture and lots of vitamin C usually does the trick but you've got to do it from first sniffle

Try turmeric in warm milk

Vicks first defence spray. It stings a bit be warned.

But I have had the scratchy throat about four times so far this winter, gone at it with the spray and it's been gone either the next day or the day after that.

I'm asthmatic so when I get a cold I don't do it by half's and bought some in a sort of last ditch 'I'll try anything at this point' sort of mood and so far I think it's worked.

I haven't had a full blown cold yet

Vicks first defence has worked a few times for me this year. First sign of a cold and I use it, it never develops into anything.

I hope your DS feels better soon and you get to see him on Christmas day xx

Thanks all, left it too late tonight but will get some Vicks First Defence as soon as chemist opens tomorrow. In the meantime I am trying some turmeric and off to bed.

Vodka straight from the freezer.
