Breastfeeding and the Pill

I am still BFing DS (6 months) and intend to continue until at least a year. But my period came back this month so need to get some contraception sorted! Has anyone had problems with BF while on the mini-Pill? (As I understand it you can't take the combined Pill because it affects milk supply.)

Also it has been like 10 years since I was last on the Pill so I have no idea what brands are out there... any good ones or ones to avoid?

I went on the mini pill after DS2 was born but i just couldnt remember to take it. I was on the combined pill for about 13 years without any problems but i think when you come off it to try for a baby you get out of the habit of taking it. Also you have a million and one things on your mind once you have children that it does get harder to remember to take it (think you have to take it within 3 hours)
In the end I got a Coil fitted and havent given contraception a second thought since.

Sorry that info was not really what you asked for, cant remember what pill i was on

Hmm, I'm really not keen on the idea of a coil... or implant... hence i think the Pill will be best option. (I haven't been on it since I was a teenager but don't think I'd have a problem remembering to take it at the same time every day.)

I'm on Cerazette and you can be up to 12 hours late. I don't have any side effects except for very irregular bleeding, basically one week on one week off... But they say you need to wait 3 months for it to stabilyse and I'm still at end of month 2.

I was on Micronor with no real problems, except I think it reduces my sex drive (to practically nil!!) I mentioned this to the doc but she didn't think it was the micronor.

MegBusset · 24/08/2007 16:58

Hmm, I did wonder about the sex drive as that was a problem for me last time I took the Pill (could have been the bloke I was with, though ).

Tugamommy, so you have a bleed every other week? That sounds like kind of a pita...

Bump in case any of the evening crowd can help?

I'm on feminax I din't get on with micronor. I don't think it has affected my milk but it is a big PITA to remember as you have to take it within a 3 hour window.
I try to take it at bedtime but have also done it in the morning when my alarm goes off.
I've been taking it for about 4 months and haven't had a period. I also haven't had any sex either and keep discussing this with DH as I don't see the point in taking it... but I supposes that's another thread.

LaCerbiatta · 25/08/2007 10:22

I stopped taking the combined pill and switched to the mini one because of the lack of sex drive. I think it's a bit better with this one.... not a lot though, it's probably just me....

Yes, a bleed every other week is a huge pita specially because I never know when it's coming but I'm waiting for the 3 months to see if it stabilises or not. I wanted a mirena coil but was told that whatever problems I have with the mini pill, like breakthrough bleeding, I will also have with the coil because it's the same hormone. So I need to wait and see. No idea what I'll go for if the bleeding continues though....
