Should Impetigo around the nose keep coming back /reoccurring

This is for Ds 18 .
This is about his 6th out break in 6ish years.
He is just finishing his 1st term at uni so i have not been with him , but he has messaged me and sent me a photo ...and it is back .
Luckily i spoke to a fab receptionist at GP and have some Fucidine to collevt tomorrow for him.
But ...should impetigo keep reappearing..or should it be sorted with different creams ?
Is it like cold sores that maybe come up when tired / run down ?

Thanks .

It can be a bugger to get rid of. Has he ever had the oral antibiotics too as mine always needed both the antibiotic cream and the tablets

ivykaty44 · 17/12/2019 21:50

They can do a swab from his nose.

Not touching his face with his hands will be the biggest preventative, friction when washing all of his hands with soap & including his thumbs, interlocking etc. Fresh towel each time & only using his own towel, washing on hot wash inbetween. He should grown out of it.

I feel your pain my dd used to suffer & is allergic properly to penicillin, antibiotics were needed more than once

@LeavesOnTheLine thank you for reolying .
No he has never had the oral antibiotics.
Just the cream .
Which is making me wonder if it has nevet actually been got rid of .
Thank you again .

No advice but I’ll be watching this.

I get it repeatedly on my chin/mouth area when stressed/run down, have had a course of flucoxacillin (probably spelt that wrong but it’s penicillin basically) tablets for it on average twice a year for the past 4+ years. It’s so painful and unsightly, and really gets me down.

I had it recently and the doctor said that I must have the cream antibiotics next time and she might refer me to a dermatologist too.

I don’t know how it happens, I wash my makeup brushes etc frequently and follow a good skincare routine, I think it’s just me really.

I've been getting it repeatedly under my lip. It goes away with Fucidin then returns, really itchy. I probably need antibiotics.

Namestranger · 18/12/2019 00:52

Are you sure it's impetigo? DHousemate had herpes in his nose that kept coming back

So ask the question if the gp as to whether a nose swab is worthwhile

How ling does it take with the cream for the impetigo to clear up?

bizzey · 19/12/2019 09:08

Thank you so much for replies .
GP has said impetigo .
No swabs taken.
The Fucidine clears it up in 3 (not looking as gross) to 5 (red with no scab) days.

He is back from his first term at uni with a head cold ,so maybe it is just his "run down" weak spot ? .
Sorry just remembered ..a swab was tried once but the GP could not do it as it was to " scabby".
Thank you again .
